That particular trade chart was thrown away when the salary cap came around (or maybe Jerrry just lost it at a bar in a drunken stupor). Now without the insane $'s for the number one pick it's probably getting a little closer to reality again than it was a few years back
Cowboys come up with a new chart pretty much every single year. That is the good news. The bad news is this is how Jerry picks it:I've been referring to this chart since it came out.
Updating The NFL Draft Trade Value Chart
It used the Jimmy Johnson chart as a base and then made adjustments based on real trades we were seeing. I'm not aware of anyone doing the adjustments since (2009).
Draft value isn't static. Different picks are worth different things in different years. Usually good for a general assessment though.
It will ultimately come down to how the Rams do with their pick. If they get a franchise quarterback, it was cheap. If the guy they pick is a bust or merely average, they overpaid.
That pretty much sums it up. They didn't actually have much to lose, without a good QB they were doomed to be about 8-8 for many more years. Guess they could of picked a better year for QBs, but if the guy they pick turns out good they will be happy with the trade. It will ultimately come down to how the Rams do with their pick. If they get a franchise quarterback, it was cheap. If the guy they pick is a bust or merely average, they overpaid.
Tell Hammer that. Maybe, just maybe he might get this trade. IMO, it's a crap shoot. The Rams haven't made the playoffs in 13 years, they had to do sometning. Just my opinion. It will ultimately come down to how the Rams do with their pick. If they get a franchise quarterback, it was cheap. If the guy they pick is a bust or merely average, they overpaid.
So the odds say it's about time for a deal like this to work for once?If you look at all the examples of big trades to move up in the draft, very very few of them have worked out for the team moving up. They are usually derided by observers after the fact. Herschel Walker. Ricky Williams. RGIII.
I agree with most of your comment, but Mariota is not a stud QB, as of yet. Now maybe he will be in the future. Time will tell. It's a great trade for the Titans since they will get much needed help with those extra picks. Time to start building around their stud QB. For the Rams, it's a wait and see. If whoever they select turns out to be a franchise QB in a couple of years, then its a great trade for them as well. If he busts, then the franchise will be in the same realm of the Browns.

I agree totally with your comment, but the key words are, if Tenn can capitalize with the extra picks.Stud might be a stretch, but he shows lots of promise IMO. With all these extra picks, if Tenn can capitalize he'll become a stud. Give the kid a line and weapons and lets see what happens.
Except this is completely wrong. Jared Goff is a much better QB than Marcus Mariota, and the Titans should have drafted him. If you have the chance to draft a franchise QB, you take it, regardless of who else is there.
Tough to say that as Goff has done nothing in the NFL yet.
Well, it's kind of touch to use NFL performance as a barometer for players who have never played in the NFL.
