Eagles O-Line...are they really a top unit year in/year out?

The Browns OL was the best in the NFL in pass pro over the final 8 weeks of last season and it wasn't even remotely close. It was a big part of what got Freddie Kitchens promoted to HC. They graded out as #2 on PFF by the end of the season.

I think the grading of pass protection can be skewed a bit even for the best lines in the NFL. Not all sacks are the fault of the offensive line. I think a good number of sacks are because the QB held onto the ball too long.

That's very true. But the Browns went from being one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL the first half of the year in terms of pass pro to suddenly being the best by a wide margin.

Because of QB play. I am not trying to take anything away from the Browns offensive line. I just thing sacks are a 2 part equation. Once Mayfield got in a groove the ball was out of his hands faster and it changed the way the line played. I have always maintained that half of the sacks an offensive line gives up the QB's fault. Baker Mayfield played in 14 games last year and was sacked 25 times. Pro rate that over a 16 game season and he would have been sacked 28 times that is less than most of the starting QB's.

Take this into account. Deshaun Watson had 61 sacks. Dak Prescott 56 and Russell Wilson had 51. Now in Russell's defense he played behind the worst offensive line I think I have ever seen. I could go further..... Rodgers 49, Ryan, 42, Rivers 32. So to have that low number of sacks especially for a rookie you have to give props to Mayfields performance and his ability to get rid of the ball quickly.

Philly's stuffed rankings (hit behind the line of scrimmage) were quite bad, though, and RB has very little to do with that.

Philly's adjusted sack rate was the same as Cleveland's last year. Figure that one out.
You wouldn't say that if you watched Herschel Walker tippy toe around for 5 minutes until he picked a hole...

No wonder Mayfield played so much better

That is a very good point. I think people forget the kind of vision great running backs have. Think about this for a second. Emmit Smith was not the most physically gifted back I have ever seen but he was one the best to play the game and as great as that O-Line was it was not all on them. The hole a line creates is not open very long. A back has to see it and get through it quickly and only the best have that kind of vision.

Philly 2017. I still say throw it out. They really don't explain the methodology and while they seem to act as if they take the RB out of the equation, they don't. Philly's RBs were not good in 2017, yet they had a good YPC because of the OL :2cents:

You're right, but here's the difference: He was sacked 20 times from weeks 3-8. Then Kitchens took over as the OC after Hue and Haley were fired, and he was sacked 5 more times the final 8 weeks. That is just too stark of a contrast to ignore.

Kitchens was a big part of it. There's a reason he went from being the RB coach to the head coach in less than a year.

True.... It appears the talent was there. The coaches sucked.

But you did not provide any proof. I would not replied either. If you are going to just pull random numbers out of the air and not provide proof of those numbers you don't deserve a response.

And here you are, white knighting and responding and getting triggered.

PE1 is a fool, but you're the icing on this cake I've made.

Don't be sad and lonely dum dum. I proved you wrong, yet again, so don't go running your mouth that Eagles have had the #1 oline for "many years now".

bwwwahahahaha., only time that dipshit decides to show his face is when ONE Cowboys fan agrees with him before seeing the undisputed evidence that I've provided, thus proving that saying "consistently having the #1 oline in NFL" is FALSE.

Don't really care about the eagles line but PFF is a far more in depth and all encompassing site than FO

Fucking hilarious. These aren’t overall rankings. These are one small statistic of what lineman do. This is how successful the RBs runs are. These are not OLIne rankings fool.
