Looked on MiLB transactions page, Morris elected free agency.

So I guess it was a formality to be outrighted, he refused the assignment and elected free agency. Makes sense when you stack it like that I guess.
Didn't think to check there. Good catch. Best of luck to him.

Also, did you see who replaced Dan Slania on Richmond's roster? Cody Hall. I had no idea he was back with the organization. Apparently, this is his first time pitching in organized baseball since Miami let him go last year.

Yeah I saw that. He just signed, along with another former farmhand Stephen Johnson.

He pitched in the Caribbean Winter Leagues this offseason, then was with Lancaster Barnstormers (an independent baseball league), which is where the Giants picked him up.

I didn't realize Johnson left. But we did have about 4 or 5 of them all at once, and had (have) a hard time keeping them all straight.

Ah yes...

I remember we talked here that he was the proper one to ship out.
Both Jordan and Chase looked better than him at the time (cannot remember if there was a 4th Johnson or not). Now, not so sure any of them will make the big league club.

You wonder about how much longer before Howard gets promoted. I wonder how much longer before Garcia gets moved up to Richmond. If you look at Richmond's current roster, they only have one catcher listed as active, Jeff Arnold. The other main guy, Eliezer Zambrano, has been on the disabled list for a couple of weeks. It looks like Myles Schroder has been filling in as the backup catcher but with the way Garcia has been hitting, his prospect status, the fact that he played in San Jose last year and the lack of offensive output from Richmond's catching core, I would think it would be any day now before Garcia gets to go to the next level.

I think Howard and Garcia, and mayyybbbeee Reynolds (though I'm not 100% yet, he wasn't that great until this month) will get promoted to AA within the next 2 weeks.

I think that will also push Miguel Gomez to AAA.

Rush roh...

Big Chris Shaw has figured out AAA.

I don't want to see him in SF this year, but I don't think he is going to allow that to happen.

He's figuring out the hitting for sure. His walk rate is terrible, though. he has only 4 walks in 120 AB's. That needs to improve, drastically. But it is nice to see him hitting with power and for an increasing average.

Derek Law looks like he isn't making it back to the big club anytime before September.

Cederoth is an interesting story. He was a 3rd rounder by the Twins in 2014. For some unknown reason, they released him last month and the Giants pounced.

His numbers do not warrant a release. They don't even warrant a loss of prospect status.

He is wild, and is far from a TOP prospect, but he is also far from a kid you should be giving up on this quick.
Wearing my Giants' polo to work today (I get to do that occasionally on Fridays) and a co-worker notices the Giants' logo and shares with me that Cederoth is his wife's cousin. What a small world.

Had a similar start in Richmond last year, after being promoted mid-season. Slow start, then he started hitting, then he started becoming an all-round player. Hopefully the trajectory is similar here.

This is my feeling. IIRC, he took a month or so to figure out San Jose as well.

The Giants signed another pitcher, Nate Reed, and plunked him right on the Richmond roster. The guy hasn't pitched in organized ball since 2014. That Richmond roster is quite the collection of castoffs, although one, Collin Balestar, is no longer there.

Edt: They also signed a guy named K.C. Hobson, who was in the Blue Jays' organization as recently as last year. In his past three years with the Blue Jays, he failed to hit at the AA level. Not sure what the Giants see in him.
