What happened this time?

Leaked the Tim Wakefield news without anyone's permission.

His wife also has pancreatic cancer.

I wonder how many qualified HoF players are out for the sole reason that they are a dick. It can't be that many.

Pretty much Schilling, Bonds, and Clemens (those 2 would be in if they were liked)

It works in the other direction as well. Ozzie Smith and Harold Baines come to mind as players who really aren’t HOF worthy, but are in for non-baseball reasons.

Omar as well. Not that he is a slam dunk, clear HOFer, but his non-baseball issues are certainly keeping him off the list.

Timmy Hardaway was facing the same issue in Basketball for a long time.

Baines no question. Ozzie only isn't a surefire HoF player if you ignore the half of the game that he was dominate at.

Why is Ozzie a HOFer?

Defensive metrics are still in their absolute infancy. I use them ONLY because there isn’t anything reliable to use.

Omar, even without his off-field issues, is looked at as a boarder line HOFer AT BEST, but Ozzie was a first ballot guy? Are you saying that there is that much difference between the two? One is an all time great and the other is a solid-ish member of the HOVG? And the flip and the off-field dalliances aren’t the reasons for that?

And I am not trying to claim that Baines and Smith weren’t good players. We are talking about HOF level here, so let’s keep the elevation of the discussion at that level.
