How do you think they are going to get to 6 or 8 without something like that happening?

The way people talk, TV money might be in decline in the coming years due to various reasons. I don't know if that's true, but if it is, then some additional games are going to be needed to generate some more revenue.

We still have the major bowl games that many of these teams would have played each other in any way.

So you'll get 2 extra games total I think with 8 teams? And the teams that make the national championship will play in 16 total games on the year now. 4 extra games than teams would have played total just 15 years ago.

Why are you so sure it's going to expand?

Has anyone even managed to define an actual problem with the current system yet?

Auburn and Oklahoma St getting left out of the National Championship games is why we went to 4. How do you think they are going to get to 6 or 8 without something like that happening?
Not in my opinion. Even with all the hullabaloo about Auburn, Oklahoma St, etal getting left out, the only reason they went to 4 is because of the additional revenue they saw they could get for the additional two games.

Or they will start reducing what they are paying for games.

That's an excellent point. Just as Oklahoma got blown out 35-7 in the 2003 Big XII Championship to Kansas St, still remained #1 in the BCS, and played for the NC. In 2001, Oregon would have been in my playoff.

Is it not naive to think they won't expand? Just look at the big picture. This is college football. The only sport in this country that is more popular is the NFL. In 1939, the NCAA basketball tournament was 8 teams. They've expanded a few times since, to say the least. By no means am I suggesting football expands that much, but 8 is probably on the horizon. We all know money talks.

My team's in there six times so I personally love it.

It would have been fun for sure. I'll take four for now which is so much better than what we had just like the BCS was so much better than what preceded it.

Wouldn't 2010 have had Ohio State in it? They had not been caught using ineligible players yet.

And while on the subject of basketball and football - look at the revenue differences in the sports already.

It would seem to suggest football....isn't broken and doesn't need to be fixed.

Because I'm sure what every AD in the country is thinking right now is: How can we take all the interest away from the part of football that brings in most of our revenue and substitute it for less revenue in a tournament that only a few teams make.

Well if that were the case, why are we at 4 teams instead of 2?

Well if that were the case, why are we at 4 teams instead of 2?

Because of the times when 3 teams deserved a shot. It was obviously needed and wanted.

If somehow there becomes a time when 5 teams legit deserve a shot, I'll believe we'll expand then. But the notion there is more money in extra playoff games for schools is a total myth.

Wouldn't 2010 have had Ohio State in it? They had not been caught using ineligible players yet.
I gave 6 conference champions spots due to their top-10 finish in the BCS. Boise St tied for their CC that year and had a top-10 finish at #10. You bring up a good point. I was bouncing back and forth with that one. Had I not put Boise St in Ohio St would have taken that spot. They were one spot behind Stanford and Wisconsin for an at-large. If you put Ohio St in...

Uhhh, Where is Iowa? They were 11-1, Big 10 Champs, and ranked #5 in the BCS, Ahead of Washington State and Oklahoma.

I appreciate your interest. They were co-champs of the Big Ten. The problem was Iowa and Ohio St were both 8-0 in conference. There was no HTH. Overall unbeaten Ohio St was given the BCS spot. Miami, Georgia, and Oklahoma all won their conference outright. Washington St, with a HTH win over USC, gave them the Pac-10. With USC being ranked one spot ahead of Iowa that would have doomed the Hawkeyes for an at-large. This would be a perfect example for fans to scream for an 8-team playoff....in which I'd be in favor.

And look at how little the college basketball season matters.

The college basketball season doesn't matter because of the number of games they play, not because of the number of the teams in the tournament.

And even if it were because of the number of teams in the tournament. We are talking about 8 teams out what? 120?

Pretty sure the regular season will still be plenty relevant.
