The Iowa football team will start two sophomore cornerbacks when the season kicks off Aug. 30 against Northern Iowa.

Desmond King at right cornerback is no surprise, but Greg Mabin was listed as a third-stringer at left cornerback just weeks ago. He’s No. 1 now.

The Hawkeyes also tinkered with the linebacking corps. Travis Perry and Bo Bower are co-starters at outside linebacker, while Reggie Spearman and Joesy Jewell share the top spot at the weak side. Senior Quinton Alston solidly remains the starting middle linebacker.

Mick Ellis, a true freshman, and Marshall Koehn are listed as equal at the kicking position. They will battle to replace Mike Meyer on placements.

Junior-college transfer Dillon Kidd has been elevated to a co-starter at punter with Connor Kornbrath.

Damond Powell, who was dealing with a sports hernia earlier this summer, looks like he’ll be good to go in the season opener. He’s listed No. 2 at the third wide receiver position, behind Jacob Hillyer.
