Here is some information from Scott Lucas about the newest Ranger.

Your newest Texas Rangers is RHP Ricardo Rodriguez. Who? Honestly, I don't know much about him myself. I've seen him live at least once, as he pitched the final inning of Matt Harrison's rehab start in Round Rock on June 19, 2015. But, to be honest, I've no memory of him, as it was fully occupied by the scuffle between Harrison and Iowa's Matt Szczur. The 24-year-old Venezuelan has been around since December 2010, but aside from two AAA appearances, he'd never pitched above low-A until this year and was shelved all of 2016 by Tommy John surgery.

Always possessed of good control, Rodriguez has been a revelation this season, once retiring 45 consecutive batters (20 by strikeout) over the course of ten appearances in high-A Down East. In June I called him a name emerging from the system's depth. Texas promoted him to Frisco July 1, and he hasn't suffered a bit, posting a 1.20 ERA with 17 strikeouts and a lone walk in 15 innings. Through others, I've confirmed this impression from a Baseball America article (which you should check out): "Rodriguez does a good job of hiding the ball behind his body during his delivery and he has a hard, downer curveball and a usable slider. B
ut his biggest asset is his ability to locate his hard, riding 93-96 mph fastball to both sides of the plate."

Daniels has got to construct the line-up next year with players that put the ball in play. I'm assuming that's why Calhoun was in the trade. I can't even remember the last time we strung hits together for a rally.

Newly drafted, Hans Crouse had another fine outing last night. He is only 18 so they are watching his innings, but so far in 13 innings his ERA is 0.69. 17 strike outs and 4 walks.

I saw that. I'm also keeping my eye on Reiver Sanmartin. He's putting up some damn good numbers.

Jamey Newberg's report this morming focused on Joey Gallo.

"Joey Gallo is good at baseball.

And getting better.

That’s his habit, by the way. It happened in AAA — he hit .195/.289/.450 (.739 OPS) for the Express in 2015, and then .240/.367/.529 (.896 OPS) in 2016 — and it’s happening in the big leagues.

In his 2015-2016 looks with Texas, spanning 153 plate appearances, Gallo hit .173/.281/.368.

In this year’s 364 plate appearances, he’s at .210/.319/.561.

Which includes, over his last 55 plate appearances, a robust .320/.382/.880, with nine home runs among his 16 hits.

His OPS against righties this season is .883.

Against lefties, it’s .865.

Only seven left-handed hitters in all of baseball (minimum 75 plate appearances) have a higher OPS against southpaws.

Gallo has hit safely in seven straight games, a career best, and has homered in two straight — as has Adrian — with six bombs in those last seven, nine in his last 14, and 10 in his last 17. Only Giancarlo Stanton (11) has more home runs than Gallo (10) since the All-Star Break.

And while Elias points out that he’s only the second player in MLB history to pile up at least 20 home runs among his first 50 career hits (Mark McGwire was the other), I’m interested to see how many others had at least 30 among their first 75 hits (McGwire didn’t)."
