Buzz Williams to Virginia Tech

Pretty stunning stuff. Marquette has a very large fan base and sells out a ton of games. It wasn't a secret that he was interested in leaving, but the jobs discussed were of the Texas variety, not a school far from big cities without a good basketball history.

The new talking point is that this is a sign the new Big East is weak. Thoughts?

Well this is most certainly true. HOWEVER, that seems like quite a shitty move on Buzz's part. Vatech is horrible, and UVA is going to continue to beat them for recruits because Tony Bennett is a stud

What sucks is yet another great class he had coming in. Hill is most likely going to dip. Same with Noskowiak. So much for being the front runner for Diamond Stone

Agree, we are also 2-3 years past being a bubble team and winning big time ACC games against good teams regularly. In basketball it is easier to make a quick turnaround with a program as well. This isn't football where you need to develop depth 30-40 players deep. It will take a couple seasons but the school fans and athletic department can be the basis for a would turnaround and a relatively quick one.

They upgraded when they got Buzz and will hopefully upgrade again or at least stay on the same level.
