So maybe it's a "little push" by the front office to let Joe know he ain't playing up to that contract and maybe get a little more out of him this season....

Could be, but I think it's more where the Browns are on the totem pole...starting a rookie QB, the Browns are clearly mapping the future.

I've always known Joe to be a competitor in the CLE-PIT matches every year...injuries have been a factor, but maybe it's time to get in another locker room...preferably one that is winning more than they lose.

Browns know they aren't going to be relevant for the next couple of years so why keep a guy around that's going to be out of his prime by the time you're a legit contending.

You might as well dump his salary, get something for him, and start developing a guy that will be around when you are contending.

Same reason the 9ers let Brooks go a few days ago. It wasn't that Brooks wasn't an effective player it's just that he had no future with the team and the 9ers needed to see what they had in Eli Harold so they could see earn that spot or if they needed to address it in the future.

Rookies.....you do realize the learning curve they usually have, right? Vets are proven players who can step in and produce right away.

Haden...fwiw...I agree with you. The Raiders are a legit contender...if a guy like this can get you over the top for the DIV, AFCCG, etc., I think you spend the money and try it.

The problem I have with it is you've got to give up something substantial to get him...probably 3rd rd pick or higher. Secondly, Joe is still a good CB, but imo he's no longer a shut down CB...I'd like to have him as a FA for around $5 or 6 mil per.

Hope someone takes the bait. Get that cap space off the books and let young guys get reps. If Hayden can regain form he's a very good corner, but I suspect he doesn't have much left after the injuries.

I'd love for the Steelers to get him, but only if the Browns agree as part of the trade that they eat a portion of his contract.

Could actually see Seattle trading for Haden if they had the cap.

That said, seems like a stupid move. Haden is only 28 and the thing the Browns need to 100% establish right now is a winning culture with some stability. You're not going to build a team that believes or attracts free agents by continuing to shed talent players for picks.

It's a LITTLE different when a team like the Pats or Seahawks mention trading players. Those are winning cultures/teams. Browns need to hang onto the decent players they have on this team. I'm sure Garrett will be THRILLED to know their best corner is now getting traded. And I get Haden has been injured a bit in the past couple seasons.. he still played 13 last.

Some of the comments on this thread amuse me. "He gets burned by Antonio Brown, OBJ, and AJ Green." Uhh, with the lolfest pass rush the Browns have put together over the last few years, is this supposed to mean something significant?

ProFootballfocus ranked him 115 out of 121 corners last season

This guy is a brutally bad player, living off some early career success

Do you think Cleveland would be satisfied with a single-pick bounty for one of their best players? I don't.

He's not one of their best players

They would drive him to whatever city they would need, for a 2nd round pick

I didn't even realize he's been in the league so long. 8 years already? I was there thinking this was year 4 or 5 for some reason

His best days are behind, and considering that the Browns won't be competitive for at least a few more seasons, it makes sense to try and move him now. Why not see if you can clear his cap space, sign younger players who will be a part of that run when they are ready to compete, upgrade positions, and maybe get a draft pick out of it.

Haden was cut today.

I guess you don't need to worry about trading for him now, eh?

Could be a Charles Woodson move. Oakland let him go at 29; Packers signed him and he ended up making 4 straight Pro Bowls in his 30's.

Considering that the average NFL player barely makes it past 3 years....and he's been in the league for quite some time, AND he's had a history of injuries....Yes. I'm willing to lay money that his best days are behind him. He's no longer going to be a #1 CB that can shut guys down 1-1.

Now, does that mean he can't be effective in the right scheme? Not at all. But his best days as a top tiered CB are, yes, behind him.

Joe Haden - DB - Free Agent
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Saints and Chiefs are two teams expected to have "strong interest" in free agent CB Joe Haden.

Haden, 28, will be a popular player over the next 24 hours. Agent Drew Rosenhaus expects his client to have a new home by Thursday afternoon. In addition to the Saints and Chiefs, the Cowboys, Colts, Giants, and Steelers have also been talked about as possible fits. The Chiefs badly need an upgrade on Phillip Gaines on the outside opposite All-Pro CB Marcus Peters.

Tell that to Cincy.....he's done. Best days are behind him. No team should bother signing him. He probably should head to the CFL.
