If you think Tulane should be a member of the Big 12 then I've given you way to much credit for having a clue.
Great academics, great recruiting state, big tv market, geographic sense.

No real commitment to having a P5 team, small student body (8K) and not a flagship University. Memphis would be a much better choice (18K) than Tulane but one of the Florida teams USF or UCF would be much better. Exactly there aren't any true viable candidates for Big 12 expansion unless the ACC folds and that isn't going to happen. The conference has very limited options across the bd.none of these move the needle. They dont really bring recruiting grounds or eyeballs. Big 10 had eyeballs, they wanted to charge them more. That is different agenda than needing to attract more fans.

Nobody you mentioned is a flagship school, at least Tulane gets you into Louisiana recruiting, a state that only has 1 P5 school right now.
I dont agree with that. It like saying grabbing Rice gives you Texas. Tulane doesnt bring in a bunch of kids that have been fans since they were in 2nd grade.
When it comes to university presidents (the ones who make the call) Tulane would be more atractive, especially after losing A&M,Mizzu and their AAU status. The whole "no real commitment to having a P5 team" argument flies out the window when you see programs like Rutgers, Purdue, Vandy ect. In P5 conferences. Remember, the Big12 does not need better teams it has plenty of that but it does need a team or two for backfill to stage the CCG($) and the academic advantages that have been mentioned and a tv market or 2 should it go the conference network route. No real commitment to having a P5 team, small student body (8K) and not a flagship University. Dr. Boren is playing 11-dimensional chess here. Yall don't even know.
Dr. Boren's mouthpiece was why the tv peeps coughed up more money last year to keep the conference from expanding.
Just you rest assured, as long as Dr. Boren is calling the shots...the University of Oklahoma is in good hands.
Mr. Boren got his attitude adjusted.. by the bow tie.
