A lot of people believe it is NC State and Virginia Tech. I see another one.
I am sure this is far fetched but I want the SEC to grab UNC and Duke. This would give the SEC credibility in basketball and give us a national brand in the sport.
There are a couple of reasons UNC and Duke could benefit from the jump. The SEC would get a new contract with the new market and it has to be more then North Carolina. UNC and Duke have been the class and really only major teams for the ACC this past decade other then a couple of good years for Maryland and Georgia Tech.
The SEC adds a fellow basketball super power and rival on their schedule every year with Kentucky. Also being in the Eastern Division UNC and Duke would also constantly face an emerging Florida team as well as often good Vandy and Tennessee teams. The SEC Eastern Division would instantly become the toughest division in basketball.
The SEC would get a good jump in academics by added these two institutes which would give more credibility to the league.
UNC and Duke have great teams in other sports which would fit in well in the SEC. Women's Basketball it would strengthen both UNC and Duke's schedule as well as strengthen the already tough SEC.
In Baseball, SEC is already top league and UNC and Duke stand to benefit from being in the league. Volleyball, Track, Golf, Tennis, Diving, Swimming, and Gymnastics have all seen SEC teams win National Titles in the last couple of years. UNC and Duke have a lot to offer in the Olympic Sports.
Duke also is a private school which gives company to our only other private school, Vanderbilt.
SEC doesn't need another Oklahoma or Texas, we already have enough major powers. SEC does need stronger academic institutes, stronger men's basketball programs, and a new market. UNC and Duke offer all of these attributes to the SEC.
