Not really sure IF Dylan would make the top 3, but he came out of that "early 60s folk song era" into rock-n-roll.

I'm throwing stuff against the wall and seeing if it sticks pokes.

Many publications have Dylan as #1 most influential.

The Beatles started singing deeper more meaningful songs after they met with Dylan and he said " You guys are incredible but you don't sing about anything."

ie "I wanna hold your hand" etc

I can't name one Nirvana song...but I know all the pre-80's bands by heart. Rock died sometime around '78-'79 for me. Wasn't disco that killed it either, was everything starting to sound the same except for maybe one or two groups.

Love it or hate it. This turned rock and roll upside down.

Well, depends. I would say Alabama was more influential to country music. Lynyrd Skynyrd was very influential, but IDK if I would say more.

Oh, I thought we were talking about bands. I don't think Bob Dylan should be included.

No no no... I would put The Who in there before some of those.

I think the Eagles should be included somewhere, but maybe after Zepplin

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were right there too.

They were a result of the break up of three other bands, Buffalo Springfield, The Hollies and The Byrds. Of those three Buffalo Springfield was probably the most influential in that other bands like Poco and Loggins & Messina got their roots from there.

The Eagles were a really good band but I didn't care for the Joe Walsh addition to the band, he should have stayed with The James Gang or soloed his career away. But it's hard to listen to The Eagles first few albums and not hear late Buffalo Springfield/Poco in some of their tunes.

Bowie yeah. Sex Pistols meh. Living in Detroit and going to The Stooges and MC5 shows, the Sex Pistols was "been there/done that".

Not even a fan of Bowie. But he was influential for sure.

Love Lou Reed and his Velvet Underground band/album

Hendrix would probably be cited by most rock guitarists. He'd be top 3 as an instrumentalist. Hell he'd probably be #1.
