You first Kemosabe...

First off, glad to see you back. Hope you are well. Secondly, nothing personal. Thirdly, it amazes me how the Hoolpla can take an idea of yours and completely run away with it. I enjoy the discussion but I just think everybody else's TOP 3 INFLUENTIAL BANDS EVER suck. :suds:

My friends and I always referred to them as female wanna be Led Zeppelin...

That's a good comparison. They were a lot slicker, more pop. They had a few good tunes. Nothing I'd buy an album for.

Like I said in an earlier post, it is hard to come up with a solid number 3 after the Beatles and Zep, and some people seem to be confusing popular with influential. But if you like, I can take pictures of my fucking off and post them, of course HD might not approve. :D

When I listen to Patsy Cline, I don't hear what I consider Country Music. She was pop. Willie Nelson writing "Crazy" and a tragic plane crash are the only reasons why Patsy Cline is considered a great.

She tops my list of most overrated singers.

Loretta Lynn has more talent in her bowel movements than Patsy Cline had in her entire body.

Loretta's vastly superior vocal range and songwriting prove it.

Maybe she didn't write but she's considered so great because she had easily the best female voice in the history of country music. I'd put Dolly over Lynn too.

Gotta agree. This is turning into one of those same old threads.

Karen Carpenter had a nice voice, so did Judy Collins. Olivia Newton-John was OK, just too syrupy...

Yeah I liked Karen Carpenter. Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss, Gladys Knight, Aretha, Joni & Janis are all favorites, too. But I guarantee my #3 won't be on anyone else's list and that's Patti Smith. Best pure rocker chick ever, imo.

I have them at about No 3 all time but I can't really think of any bands right off the top that tried to go down that lane. Billy Squire lol had that sound but as far as inspiring rock they really kept that moving. Everyone started playing guitar faster until Van Halen kind of took it too far. After that there was a backlash and the grunge sound got popular and guitar started taking a back seat. The Who were also about with Zep and I liked the Yardbirds.

Wasn't ever really a fan, Joan Jett and Pat Benatar would be in the group of pure rocker chicks imo.

Curly Paxson is probably the best singer that nobody ever heard of. Too bad he couldn't get a record deal after he left our band. He still sings at wedding receptions and class reunions.

I will fight all of you. Except Pink Floyd I put in their own category because I don't think anybody has eevn come close to even trying to replicate what they did.

Radiohead with Ok Computer is about tthe closest I personally can think of

I'll fight you and your sweet mama
