1966 was an absolute "travesty" Championship. I said back 04' that if it where Bama that went undefeated instead of Auburn, and didn't play in the championship...a playoff system would have been in place in 05'!...or, the powers that be "the tuskaloosa taliban" as I like to call-em, might have been so bent out of shape, they created a firestorm like nothing ever seen before. And possibly, threatened to leave the NCAA, and start their own league!

"Tuskaloosa Taliban" could have made a few phone calls and started a 12 team league to consist of Michigan, Ohio St, Florida, Florida St, USC, Notre dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, LSU and Penn St. That could have been awesome!

Did they do so in 1966? and they had a good case. You seem to think in terms of the Alabama group you call the Tuscaloosa taliban have some power of sorts, when it simply isnt true. All that you mentioned is pure hype and speculation of what would have happened, but no real hard facts to back it up. And this has nothing to do with the titles being claimed by Bama or the ones awarded by whatever agency from the past. The titles Bama claims have a basis for legitimacy or they would not claim them. Bama fans dont claim near as many as the school has laid claim to though, in most cases i have seen.

Not commenting on the thread topic, but made me think of an experience I had yesterday at the local dog park. A girl was there with her dog wearing a aTm hat and a shirt proclaiming 13 Nat'l Championships. I was like.....wtf? I then noticed the shirt was for Bama. Split household? Who knows. My dog didn't like hers, so didn't talk to her :o)

People who spout records can look like fools when their "facts" are finally put into perspective. The record book says Princeton is the all-time #1 winning team for National Championships. Here I thought Alabama was setting the standard for college football by winning a butt load of National Championships but my research has given me a whole new outlook. Princeton won the NC in 1869 with a record of 1-1. Hell of a team. And they went on a rampage and won it again in 1870 when they went 1-0. There weren't any games in 1871 (that is a fact) but Princeton came roaring back in 1872, 1873, 1874 and 1875 to win four in a row! Suck on that Alabama! Yale broke the streak in 1876 but Princeton won the next one in 1877 with a record of 2-0-1. I could go on but take my word for it: Princeton accomplished more from 1869 to 1899 that Alabama ever will.

Yep, Princeton definitely owns the record book, and its unlikely anyone will surpass them, at least this century.

Man thanks for the history update.... Bama didn't start a football program until 1893 so we were a little behind the curve..... But look at us now.

Count the AP only and we still kick everyone's ass! I think it's ironic that we are only discussing Bama's. For every example, where Bama got favoritism there is one where they got fucked! Want to mention all the ones they got jumped or got screwed? There are plenty of other teams that got the benefit of the doubt as well. Someone is going to get short end under current system and it's Bama sometimes. You just fail to mention those. EVERYTIME! So quit :bawling: and accept that Alabama is the king of the National Championship; now, then and in the future!

Some people would just ignore that fact, Weazal. They only look at the totals and not what makes up the numbers. It's like a guy bragging how he WAS the baddest guy around when he was younger. Makes no difference now; he should keep his mouth closed when the current tough guy is in the room. Alabama's setting the gold standard for college football during this era. Until that stops, it's all that counts.
