A confession about Tim Wakefield... Sox will honor Tim & Stacy Wakefield before today's home opener....

I'd like to apologize to anyone who heard me before 2004 saying, "The Red Sox will never win with Wakefield on their roster."

I've always disliked using a roster spot on a gimmick player - but Wake proved me wrong. He always accepted whatever role the Sox needed him for. He never complained. He mostly worked on a year to year contract - and never asked for too much money... And more importantly, he won it all with Boston.

So, thank you, Mr. Wakefield. May your and Stacy's off-field work and charities continue forever...
