Pure speculation: Their "Full Throttle" was going to be Yamamoto & Montgomery... They were outbid by the Dodgers for Yamamoto (embarrassing) - and they're waiting for Boras to drop on Montgomery, which should happen soon....

Also speculation (not mine, saw an article today)... They will empty the bank for Juan Soto next winter.

If Soto is their long term plan, I can see why they're being cheap this year.

I would’ve been fine with monty and gio at the start of the offseason

It would be my pick still now

They can still salvage this

I think Boston may still need one more starter, even if they get Montgomery....

Praying for Crawford, Houck, Pivetta, & Whitlock... hopefully two of them step it up for a full season...

The fact that they can all be stretched out for long relief makes it easier to not totally tax the bullpen

I think Soto will extend with Yanks. You don't trade for him without the intention of extending him.

If the Sox had done more for the rotation than just Giolito, I wouldn't hate this off-season.

Bringer of rain my ass

He was coming off a strong 2021 season, but it became abundantly clear in '22 he was toast.

He was an awesome player in 2013-19 though.

I agree

I said in October that monty gio would’ve been fine for me since YY seemed like a long shot

But now the kids get one last chance to prove they are starters

I know why they made the trade, it looked pretty good on paper- but in hindsight they just should've held onto Urshela

They were idiots giving him that kind of money and now it looks even worse out at least one season. Awful

The bigger issue is that was the only SP they acquired.

It's even worse if this was an underlying issue and not just some recent development.

Before Bello the last SP they developed was Clay Buchholz

Before that? Lester

It is wild how bad they've been no matter who was in charge.

If they got Monty and Gio I thought it was a fine offseason. Just enough.

Obviously tearing a UCL in ST changes that calculus. But frankly, that's just bad luck.

Rodriguez was good, though he wasn't drafted by the Sox (got him in the Andrew Miller trade)

They got him when he was already in AA

Not really developed
