Yup. You’ve said that all along. We’ve agreed on it all along. There was little need to overwork him early in the year after(essentially) 2 years off.

It is what it is, and what it is isn't great. They're very lucky that German has stepped up, and to a lesser extent Montgomery as well, but they're going to need more starting pitching. Hoping and praying that Severino will simply pick up where he left off is not a plan for success, IMO.

We also don’t know the severity of the injury yet. Kluber might only miss a couple starts?? The Yankees are so deep with pitching, I don’t see this as a major issue even if he is out a while.

Ketel Marte is a lofty target. He’s really good and is under team control for several years on a reasonable contract. It would cost a LOT to pry a guy like that out of AZ. I think you need to set your sights lower.

Def would come at a high cost, but it’s a team years from competing, and by time they are ready he will prob need to get paid. So maybe a package of upside players would appeal to an organization with tons of holes to fill, rather than the one talented guy you will do a lot of losing with

He makes $6m this year, $8m next year and has 2 team options at $10m and $12m for 2023 and 2024. In other words, he’s a real bargain and not exactly a guy they need to worry about dumping for salary relief. I’m sure AZ has some shitty contracts to move, but this isn’t one of them. I also don’t know who the Yankees could dangle in a trade these days? I haven’t heard a lot of excitement from that system in a while. I’m sure there are some decent young arms, but not sure it’s enough.

lots of money to pay a guy to be punching bags for the Dodgers and Pods for the next half decade. He’s a nice player, I wouldn’t classify him as a guy that’s bringing back a package of A+ prospects

not saying it would happen but the Yankees def have a package they could put together if he became available

Let’s not turn him into a superstar because I said he’d be a nice get for the Yankees

That’s not a lot of money for a really good player. And ARZ isn’t exactly a small market that can’t afford him. This isn’t TB or OAK.

I’m not making him into a superstar because you like him, either. Did you realize he finished 4th in MVP voting in 2019? He’s 27 years old and plays all over the place. After Judge, he’d probably be the 2nd best player on the Yankees right now(at least until old man LeMahieu wakes up).

Total blessing

as long as he returns, concerns with innings limits are out the window

one year deal, this could work out beautifully

I know 23 year old Gleyber Torres’ career is over according to you, but most executives are probably not swapping him for the older Marte
