Was sarcasm....It's amazing when the market for a player is just a few teams and the players/agent try to invent a larger one....He'll probably end up signing with them....

Such BS from Martinez. If the Red Sox have the best offer on the table, you are going to take a different offer because the "best offer" isn't high enough? So you aren't "fed up" with another team offering you a smaller deal, just the Red Sox.

Right. Although I would attribute this to Boras rather than JDM. "How dare you don't bid against yourselves?"

Strange tactics though. Especially if he signs a 1 year deal to stay in Az. He thinks he's going to better in next years' class? Highly unlikely, IMO.

Funny thing is. I don't know if he would do worse in next year's class. Yes, it's a better class but with so many teams gearing up for next year, there are only so many free agents available. So let's say the Yankees are gearing up for 2019 and for some reason they don't sign Harper or Machado. Well they have the money because they were preparing for it so Martinez would have a market. More than 2 teams are going to be going after Machado/Harper, and Martinez can be a cheaper consolation prize.

Oh okay I was confused. Yeah players need to realize, you are worth whatever someone is willing to pay you. If the Red Sox have the highest offer, and it's 5/125, then that's what you are worth.

That doesn't mean you don't try to negotiate obviously, but if at this point you are getting 5/125 as the highest, then your agent was selling you a pipe dream when he said to try to get 7/200

Hoping Martinez takes that deal. 5 yrs. at 25 million per is awesome and a deal anyone should be signing.

The article doesn't list the Yankees as giving anything up. Hopefully this is a Spring Training gimmick.
It says for future considerations.....Please let it be Ellsbury and some pine tar......

LOL. Ellsbury is from the Pacific NW, maybe he'd actually waive his NTC.

No such luck. Just a kid who always wanted to say he was a Yankee getting his wish.

SPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Yankees have acquired Russell Wilson from the Rangers for future considerations.

Wilson was a fourth-round pick of the Rockies back in 2010 and briefly considered a career in baseball before declaring for the NFL Draft in 2012. He has since been named to four Pro Bowls. The Rangers selected the Seattle Seahawks quarterback in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft in 2013, mostly as a PR move, and he is expected to make an appearance at the Yankees' Grapefruit League camp in Tampa, Florida sometime in February or March. But there is really nothing else to this story.:suds:

Well Wilson was traded from the Rangers, not the Seahawks. So I have a feeling Ellsbury's affection for the Pacific Northwest isn't relevant.

Well, Ellsbury wasn't traded period, so the whole thing is irrelevant. Just having some fun as I count the days to P&C.

Thats gonna be some awkward TV considering the Yankees will prob get a lotta talk on MLB this season

Kay made a great point about Girardi yesterday. As bad as he was with the media as manager, he is actually a pretty good broadcaster/analyst as we saw when he used to work at YES before becoming manager

Im sure he will be great, but watching this team destroy everything in their path this season (besides the Astros), I dont care how good an actor he may be, its gotta be tough for him to be talking about it everyday

Yeah, I think that Wilson trade is PR and nothing else. When was the last 2 pro sports athlete anyway? Brian Jordan, correct?
