First of all the NHL should not let sponsors dictate how they react to problems in the league.

However if Air Canada is unhappy with the leagues response to injuries, head shots, and cheap shots than they are free to pull their sponsorship. Head shots and their consequences have been as big of a story this season as any good events so I can see how that would trouble some sponsors. And todays ruling pretty much said that driving a players head into the glass, whether intentional or not, is pretty much OK.

Doesn't that happen all the fucking time in other industries?

Not at all.

Happens a lot in advertising.

How often do you hear a various group complaining that so-and-so should pull their ads from such-and-such show/network because they don't like the content?

Happened just a couple weeks ago with Skins.

Tons of companies pulled ads from Glenn Beck's show because he went off the deep end a year and half ago or so.

Gosh. I am swearing too much and being argumentative. This is why I shouldn't have given up smoking for Lent. Only 24 hours in and I'm ready to strangle people (no offense).
I quit yesterday at 5:00.

Just bought another pack today at 9:00AM.

Tiger Tiger Woods y'all.
most of the sponsors seem to have returned, but he was a sinking ship for a while there.

Bertuzzi should put the icing on the cake by hunting down Tim Danson and beating him on the court steps.

Damn! I used to always say "Quitting smoking is easy! I've done it hundreds of times!" I think that was a Mark Twain rip-off though.

Bettman tells them to fly away if they want to

"Air Canada is a great brand, as is the National Hockey League, and if they decide they need to do other things with their sponsorship dollars that's their prerogative, just like it's the prerogative of our clubs that fly on Air Canada to make other arrangements if they don't think Air Canada is giving them the appropriate level of service."

That is different. They can pull their support if they don't like the content but they do not try and dictate how the show regulates punishment when an employee violates company policy. Huge difference.

Not trying to be difficult, but that's a very loaded statement.

AC has issues with the NHL's ruling that Chara didn't really violate "company policy" except for a basic 2 minute interference penalty. They're taking issue with "company policy" essentially.

There's a German word that best describes my feelings of the week that Gary has experienced - Schadenfreude.

The only German expression I know is the one I learned from the movie Top Secret - Ist der tochter achtzehn, bite.
