i think you just want us to name Theatre actors as the best actors...
no, not at all.

I just don't think of Sandler as a good actor.

I think the dude that plays Punisher is better. I think Jonah Hill is better.

they have more range and can play different characters.

Adam Sandler just plays himself in all his movies

he knows his audience...again, that's more businessman than anything else.

and he can go and make a movie like Uncut Gems whenever he wants.
When he goes dramatic, he is a shockingly good actor. Spanglish, Uncut Gems, Punch Drunk Love, Hustle…

I would have loved to see his take on the Bear Jew. That could have been amazing.

Reign Down On Me was pretty decent too...and touched on politcs.

but again, not a top ten actor, IMO

I like him because he is well into his Fuck You money stage, so he just makes movies that he enjoys making and casts his buddies and family in them. If they are good, great (they typically are not). If they are fun, great (they typically ARE fun). But he is friends/family first, every time. And I have MAD respect for that. If I like it, he doesn’t give a shit. If you like it, he doesn’t give a shit. Who can’t respect that?
Yep. He can be very funny and he seems to be a genuinely good guy too.

this is why adam sandler is top 10 or at least close to it...

1. His early stuff are amongst the best comedies of all time...
2.... He was so successful that he opened his own studio that Encompasses many of the great comedies in the past 30 years...

3. He is still relevant because he knew his schtick and knew that it wouldnt work great as he aged... so he started creating family comedies....

4. Netflix... he made a contract with Netflix...
He did an incredible job, after SNL fired him, of rounding up high end talent/household names to surround himself with.

As well as all of his friends.

For instance Waterboy(since I just rewatched it). That movie is not what it is without Kathy Bates.

Carl Weathers had a similar effect in Happy Gilmore imo.

true... all of his movies had amazing casts... But does that hurt his job in those movies?? i mean, when you think of happy gilmore, or billy madison or waterboy(his best 3) do you not think of him first...

you mean you think about the main actor when you think about a movie?

imagine that...

has Sandler ever played a supporting role?

my question was more targeted to how it sounded to me... that he was using the great cast as a crutch to how good sandler is/was

I think they are good all around comedies and that is what makes a comedy good to me.

it usually isn't just one person that makes a comedy good, but it does help.

Pre-Billy Madison, yes. Airheads, for one.

Post-Billy Madison, just in cameos.

But I don’t see what that has to do with anything.

He’s the lead. And the driving force, sure.

And when watching them now, I appreciate the arch of each of his ridiculous characters so much more. Starting off as horribly flawed, lazy, angry, spineless etc. and rounding out at the end into a good guy worthy of a solid piece of ass.

forgot about Airheads...I enjoyed that movie.

just saying he doesn't really do supporting roles.

if he is in a movie, it is considered an Adam Sandler movie...and it is usually him producing it

I don't think many producers or directors are saying "you know who would be perfect for that role? Adam Sandler" when they are casting.

unless they are literally casting the role of Adam Sandler.

Spanglish was not a happy Madison movie...

wont happen now, because he is older... so he needs to produce anything he is in... but that is not a bad thing...

then again... seems like uncut gems was not produced by sandler either... But that one made sense that he was casted for the lead...

I think Spanglish and Punch Drunk Love were both before Happy Madison was created...

I think they were Focus Features.

I also loved Will Ferrell in Stranger than Fiction

Reeves is an absolute oversight.

Cage, I don’t know. He was making good shit in the 90s, but he has gotten onto the ”Direct to Video” market for the last 20 years or so that has poisoned the well for me.

I like Adam Sandler but I never really considered one of the "greats"

Still the show honoring him was fantastic One great comedy skit after another.

Sandler is a beast, who also comes as a collective force with the “production family” he created.

“Best” is subjective, but in the Rom-Com genre, he’s second to none.
