Might as well take out the word "hitting" in that sentence.

We have 4 guys who can claim to be the Ace of this staff, and each would would have at least some kind of argument for the case.

The only guy who should sit in the corner and be quiet is the guy who has won two CY Awards in the last 5 years.

That's sick.

How awkward will it be when Zito has a solid year (ERA < 4) and he gets shutdown so he doesn't hit 200 innings?

No chance that happens. His option will almost certainly be picked up, regardless of vesting.

the $$ difference between picking up the option and not is only about 11M. a QO would be worth approx 14M this off-season. Zito is EASILY one of the top 50 or so SP in the game.

Interesting. I was led to believe that there was no chance of that happening.

Irony: If I said 3 years ago Barry Zito won us our 2nd World Series was an ace caliber P, and the smart move would be to pick up the option. I would have been laughed off this board, deservedly so

Thats what we all thought for the first few years of his contract. But salaries have sky-rocketted in the mean-time, and Zito has become a decent pitcher.

The buy-out portion of his contract is a sunk cost, so ignore that when looking at his potention '14 salary. He would only cost the Giants about 11M to bring back. No-brainer.

To say he won the WS would be an over-statement, but he certainly played a pretty huge role in getting there and winning it.

#SFGiants only 2nd team since at least 1916 to have starters not allow an earned run in first 4 games of a season (1976 Brewers)
