How can 2+ MPH on Sean Manaea's sinker improve the overall performance of the pitch? Alex Cobb observed a similar spike with his sinker last year and the pitch performed better than ever in 2022: BA: .273 XBA: .232 LA: 1 degree

Hitters have been able to get lift against Manaea's sinker in the past, so anything that helps limit that should pay off nicely for him and the Giants

Yup. Just look what happened to Timmeh after 2010 when his velocity collapsed in the opposite direction. Hitters could sit on his sinker and just react to the fastball, 'cause he couldn't blow it by them after then.
