He's been a good value. Year-before-last he was super solid at the plate and filled in admirably when we traded Adrian and Rizzo. No complaints.

He was with us when we were WORSE than the Padres usually are, and he still could not make our squad because of his D. And that was back when we had the 53 year old Rich Aurilia as our regular 1B.

Looks like a Tuesday night Petco crowd there. What's with all the empty seats? And this is a sell-out? Allot of fans musta come dressed as chairs.

Apparently the security at the game is stupid-tight...

Well, you know Bochy's "play the vet" mentality had a lot to do with that. Aurilia, Ishikawa, and Garko had the AtBats that year. IIRC, Guzman had less than 25 for the whole year, even tho he was yoyo'd up and down during the season.

That was before Boch earned his life-time pass from me, and I was calling him out on his treatment of the kids a lot back then.

But I 100% agreed with Guzman not playing. It was literally painful watching him attempt to catch balls thrown to him from whatever scrub was throwing them from SS, 3B an 2B at the time (Castillo, Bocock, Ortiz, Durham, and I have no idea who else).

If there was ever a hitter born to be a DH, it was Guzman.

In 20-odd ABs? 20-odd innings?

What an absolute disaster of a sequence on that fake bunt.

So is it officially time to look at the Rockies (!) as a threat, with their 12-4 start? That would really be a 'surprise' team if they contend.

Reminds me a bit of the 8-1 Dodger start last year which made me sit up and take notice....
