Thoughts on Ben Simmons 13 assist, 9 rebound, 0 point game?

Barkley and Shaq hated it. They said with Kevin Durant out, Ben Simmons has to look for his shot more. They said he's only

Kenny Smith said it was a good game, especially when you account for his defense. He said any NBA player would take a 13 assist, 9 rebound game.

I think it was a pretty good game for him. He can't make FTs and can't make shots outside of dunks or layups, so he's not going to do much. 11 points would be asking a lot for him.

I think people might need to re-adjust their expectations of him. He isn't an All-Star. He's a good all-around contributor.

If people think Rudy Gobert is limited on offense, Ben Simmons is about two steps below that. To put things into perspective.

Barkley said Simmons should be able to drive from the perimeter and get an easy shot. I don't think so. If he drove from the perimeter, and go a shot close to the basket, unless it was a 2 foot layup, he'd still miss. That's just the way it is. Height isn't an advantage in scoring because he can't make jump shots. He would just miss the shot, and give the other team an opportunity at a rebound.

Who?

I don’t give that guy credit because I don’t have to. It means nothing to me or to him or anyone else. So I don’t care. He’s a fake tough guy, fake interviewer, fake confidence, etc. I am not tough at all, but I don’t act like I am.

I wasn't asking you to give credit. I was asking whether you think that performance was worthy of some credit or not.

Since it was a topic of discussion, about whether he should be scoring more, with Durant out.

Barkley and Shaq were unhappy with the performance, because he went 0-3.

I don't recall seeing a 0 point, 13 assist line by anyone before, so I don't know what I thought before.

Maybe Rondo had one of those one time. Probably with less rebounds, steals, and blocks.

Jacque Vaughn, former Jazzman and Nets coach, did it. I believe they are the only two players to do it.

If he does it, no credit. :) But I’m not stingy, I’ll give him plenty of blame.

Nice. What team was he on when he did it?

The Spurs this year are not a good team, but if you only saw their score at half, you would assume they were having an “on” night, as any team can get hot. If you only saw the opponents score, you would think that it was just a bad loss, by a bad team. One might say that both could be true, but I assume that if you appreciate defense, that can’t be.

You could also assume you wouldn’t see this:

It did not let me tag you in the spoiler title. It then says [user]@nuraman00[user] or something similar.

LeBron James becomes the first player to score 40 against every team.

I wonder if there's someone that's done it against 29 or 28 teams.

Alex Smith beat every team at least once except for the Chiefs, though some say he did cause them to lose before.

@MHSL82

I know you tagged me in a thread about Haliburton, back in December. I didn't respond in that thread, because my opinion was a little bit irrelevant to the thread topic.

The thread was about whether it was a good trade, between Sacramento and Indiana.

My opinion is that the Kings should have given up two first round picks for Sabonis, instead of a player, and kept Haliburton.

Make the picks top 4 protected. If they have to lower it to top 3, I guess still do that, even though it would have cost them the 2022 pick, which ended up being # 4.

Most occasional All-Stars command one first round pick. Two would have been above the usual asking price.

This would have been before the Utah-Minnesota trade, which changed the market value for All-Star players.

If the Kings would have had Sabonis, Fox, Haliburton, that is a trio with high ceilings, if they could get their defense together.

Some people think Fox and Haliburton couldn't play well at the same time together. I don't think there was enough time to decide.

Haliburton's passing is a once every 9 years or decade type talent.

The Kings would not have been able to get Huerter from Atlanta, if they had given their picks to Atlanta. So that might have hurt. But it's probably better to have 3 stars, than two but a deeper team.

On my list of must-see in person players:

James
Jokic
Haliburton.

I know, I'm probably running out of time on James. But this is my top 3 list.

I don't think the Kings could have gotten much for Fox, the market just wasn't there. Hence they had to give up either picks or Haliburton, for Sabonis.

Haliburton became a must see player as soon as I saw him in summer league in his rookie year. Sometimes, you just "see" it.

Kareem broke the scoring record in a game against Utah, in a game played at Las Vegas.

Sabonis is also a great passer. I hope he finishes the season averaging 7 assists a game.
