As I was thinking about 1B out there, I wonder if Kang could play 1st? If he could their best infield might be Harrison, Mercer, Walker, Kang.

He did in Korea, but I don't know how often. He played all nine positions for Nexen last year, though, and from what I saw, looked pretty decent, even as a catcher.

Who are the Pirate all-stars this year?
Locks: McCutchen, Cole, Melancon
Probable: Burnett, Marte, Watson
Possible: Cervelli, Harrison

Could the Pirates send 6-8 to Cincinnati?

Possible but not likely. 4 or 5 is most likely IMO.

I wonder if Zobrist would be an option. He can play every position, including first base, and he's got a good bat. The Athletics might be selling soon, too.

Scott Kazmir might be an interesting target, as well, if the Bucs want to upgrade the rotation.

Chris Volstad has been called up as bullpen help since that's been an issue the past couple games, and Hart is on the DL with a "left shoulder impingement."

I assume Decker will be the man called up once Volstad has filled his role.

Maybe we can trade for Goldschmidt. Arizona GM Dave Stewart has already publicly verified that he's an idiot; it would be worth a call to see if we can get him cheaper than expected. And man, what an upgrade that would be.

A legit cleanup hitter. *swoon*

I would call about Goldschmidt and Freddy Freeman. It doesn't hurt to call. I also would not be shy about adding Glasnow in a deal for either one. Of course, I am the one guy not sold on Glasnow being a true #1 yet.

Since both are signed for a bit, Bell would be available in those deals, too, I'd imagine. I'd prefer to try to get the deal done without Glasnow, but given what Goldschmidt especially would bring to the team, I could be talked into it.

I don't see how you acquire Goldschmidt with giving up the entire top 5 really, or a deal with a significant ML ready player going to other way. There is no reason for the Dbacks to trade him. Dave Stewart isn't that stupid.

Adam Lind is probably the best option, yeah, but I wonder about the Brewers driving up the price for us since we're in the division.

TAILLON UPDATE

Huntington said pitching prospect Jameson Taillon (abdomen) will go in for a second opinion on his injury.

“We'll have a better update for you after we get that second opinion,” Huntington said. “He's got discomfort in the lower abdomen, which is kind of inhibiting his ability to do baseball activities at this point in time.”

Well this stinks. I wonder if we will see him pitch at all this year, let alone in the majors?

It does suck, but an abdomen injury doesn't really scare me long term.

Very interesting. I don't see how that benefits compared to using Locke normally. The bullpen gets completely hammered. Maybe if Locke starts the day before an off day that would be a better alternative, going with Caminero, that way they can recover.

It's just sequencing, Locke is really a 5 inning pitcher, and the bullpen is going to have to pick up slack either way. Caminero for 2, then Locke 5, then Watson, and Melacon assuming everything goes well would be the sequence. The only difference is Locke pitches 3-7, instead of 1-5.

Taillon out for the year with a Hernia...

Is this the first time we have burned options/40-man roster spots instead of giving MLB service time to injured players?

Neither Kingham or Taillon are on the DL.
