B1G Announces 2014 Conference Football Schedule - Iowa Official Athletic Site

Park Ridge, Ill. -- The Big Ten office announced the conference schedule for the 2014 football season today, as approved by the Big Ten Directors of Athletics. The 2014 schedule consists of eight games for each of the Big Ten's 14 teams and feature a new division alignment.

Iowa's Big Ten schedule includes one home game in the first five conference weekends, and concludes with three November home games.
The Hawkeyes open the Big Ten slate with a divisional contest at Purdue on Sept. 27, before their first bye week Oct. 4. The Hawkeyes open their Big Ten home schedule against Indiana on Oct. 11, and visit College Park, Md., for their first-ever meeting against Maryland on Oct. 18. Iowa finishes its October schedule with its second bye week on Oct. 25.

Iowa's five November games are all division matchups, beginning with Northwestern on Nov. 1 in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes then play back-to-back road games at Minnesota (Nov. 8) and Illinois (Nov. 15). Iowa's visit to Champaign represents the first game against the Illini since 2008. Iowa concludes the regular season with consecutive home trophy games against Wisconsin (Nov. 22) and Nebraska (Nov. 28).
The 2014 conference season begins on Sept. 13 with Rutgers making its Big Ten debut by hosting fellow East Division member Penn State. Maryland will take part in its first Big Ten game two weeks later on Sept. 27 with an East Division matchup at Indiana.

Interesting Iowa has 2 bye weeks in there (10/4 & 10/25), am supposing KF and Barta will fill one with a MAC team;

May have to go to the 11/15 game at Illinois

Let's assume we win 3 of 4 non-conference games, I do believe we can win 3 additional games (likely Purdue, Illinois and either Indiana or Minnesota) and get bowl eligible. We don't play OSU or MI, which would be 2 guaranteed losses.

I thought starting in 2014 though, we can't play UNI? Thanks for posting the full schedule, I think I would rather not start in August and fill an October slot with a different team myself...not sure having a bye week then 2 games and another bye is going to be good. Seems August is so very hot anymore it would be better to let the players start in September, just my 2 cents.

Hoops, here is this years schedule, you are right, 2 byes, one in October, one in November, that seems a better bye schedule to me:
8/31/13 vs. Northern Illinois
9/07/13 vs. Missouri State
9/14/13 at Iowa State
9/21/13 vs. Western Michigan
9/28/13 at Minnesota
10/05/13 vs. Michigan State
10/12/13 BYE
10/19/13 at Ohio State
10/26/13 vs. Northwestern
11/02/13 vs. Wisconsin
11/09/13 at Purdue
11/16/13 BYE
11/23/13 vs. Michigan
11/29/13 at Nebraska

a little bit yeah, but more to me, it was a first look at the schedule then, with a question based on Herky's post that still shows UNI on the schedule, I think that is going to be changed...think if I recall correctly, that we have to take them off

plus this is the day they released this schedule so it seemed a bit appropriate, never too early to be optimistic right?

Yes we are.

So I looked to see when we stop playing UNI. Base on this, they are still on the schedule (along with other nonBCS teams) through 2018.

Iowa Hawkeyes Football Schedules and Future Schedules

This is ridiculous. I like having ISU on the schedule (although a few years break would be nice), but UNI??? Doesn't help recruiting, doesn't count as a win......I don't get this. Once a decade we should play UNI and that's it.

Here is the story I saw on Hawk Central...How Big Ten?s decision affects Iowa-UNI football rivalry | Hawk Central

"...Barta added he was undecided about how to handle games already scheduled against Northern Iowa, in 2014 and 2018. The Hawkeyes also host Illinois State in 2015 and North Dakota State in 2016. They play Missouri State this season.

“In Northern Iowa’s case, they are an in-state school,” Barta said. “And so, it is something where we’re working toward the possibility of keeping them. But at his point, we don’t know.”

Dannen expects the 2014 game with Iowa to take place, but the matchup set for four years later might be in jeopardy..."
