The shortened grass season has begun (3 tournaments). The Major of all majors begins in a week. Anyone want to take a guess on either side who will win and also who will surpise (at least Semis).

Mine are Federer on the Mens side with the surprise possibly being Cilic.

On the womens side I will stick with Serena. I dont see any surprises on the womens side yet.

I will wait for the draw to come out and then make final decisions, but I think Fed sucks it up one last time and Serena has been unbeatable lately.

I'm holding hope for Andy Murray! (unless he's injured or retired and I don't know about it)

Has everyone seen this? If not, find it and watch it.

Four Americans (Kudla, Reynolds, Odesnik, and Kuznetsov) made their way through qualifiers. Two others made it to Round 3 (Smyczek and Williams, who lost to Reynolds). That's a good showing, especially for Kudla who is only 20 and is about to crack the top 100. If things go right, he won't ever have to play a GS qualifier again.

American men have been lacking since Roddick retired. I like this kid Jack sock, but his strokes are too wristy for grass. Isner probably has the best chance there.

Possible Roger/Rafa QF matchups but Fed will have to advance past Haas in the 4th round

Actually Haas is in Djokers bracket. Still, I see your point. The Fed/Rafa bracket is brutal. I think after seeing the draw I would have to take Djoker.

JMDP might have the easiest road to the quarters though.

Cilic may have a tough time in the Tsonga /Murray bracket too. I think I will change my longshot to Milos Raonic. He has not been playing that great lately though.

No change in the womens. I will stick with Serena.

I think you could see Hantuchova as a sleeper making it into the quarters and possibly the semis. Radwanska would be her quarter matchup

It's totally wack how Nadal has a 5th seed when he, Djoker, and Fed are the three most likely players to win. I understand it's cuz he was gone from the game w/ injuries for a long time, but still, you'd think the Wimbledon seeding committee would exercise more of the discretion they are given, since they don't have to strictly seed according to rankings, to adjust Nadal to at least #3.

Nadal is not that good of a grass court player. At best I would of seeded him 4th but no way would I seed him over Andy Murray.

Maybe if Nadal actually played and won a grass court tourney he would of been a top 4 seed

If by "not that good of a grass court player" you mean better than anyone in the world other than Djoker and Fed.

Murray a better grass court player than Nadal? Nadal has 2 Wimbledons. How many does Murray have again?

Rafa has been better on grass the last several years because they changed the grass mixture (and the balls too I believe) around 2006 maybe so it does not play very fast anymore. Heck even the US Open hardcourts play faster than Wimbledon.

There are also some other grass specialists (Haas, Lopez, etc..) that should be seeded much higher but are not. They used to do that much more up until the changes I mentioned earlier.

Wimbledon bases most of their seedings off a formula, which is a mix of total ATP points, grass court points in the last year, and grass court points the year before that (given half the value of last year). I saw the formula beforehand, and they made no changes in the top ten.

Nadal is definitely a better grass court player than Murray, but i'd go a step forward and say he is also better than Nole. He made the title five straight times he played before losing to Rosol last year, and won two titles. He took an in-form prime Fed to five sets in 2007. He won the title twice. Nole has one final, the win over Rafa where Rafa played like crap. He got beat by DelPo at Wimby last year during the Olympics. He had his chance to conquer Fed and couldn't even give him a battle like Nadal did.

I think the winner of Fed/Nadal will be the best grass court player left. We'll see if they can muster up the energy at their advanced ages/experience levels.
