Yeah I know, but everytime Diekman is in there I'm just waiting on the wheels to come off, that's one of those instances where seeing a guy pitch holds precedence over stats

That's a pretty succinct way of describing where I am with Dyson right now.

Or maybe all of the ones who are doing it may be overthinking.

LaRussa did this quite often. Believe so has Maddon, but know for sure Tony did it.

And for my 1000th post let me just say:

Go Rangers! Heck of a job getting a win yesterday after so many missed opportunities.
Let's start cashing in those RISP chances and we'll all breathe a little easier.

I really do not get this. I don't care how good Hamels hits if there are 2 outs and guys in scoring position I would rather see DDJ hitting and if that is a problem then he should be on the bench.

I'd probably rather see Jefress, Kela, or Bush in that role before Dyson personally. But I do agree no matter situation it should be best available pitcher regardless.
I agree the closer role needs to go away. In close games in the 9th you want someone who has the higher strike out rate.

Dyson and Jefrees with their stuff can be the victim of BABIP.

Regarding the pitcher batting 8th, the thinking is that this increases the chances for the top of the order to come to bat with more runners on base. It essentially turns the lineup over with the 9 hole hitter.

As far as Dyson goes we all know Banister has a little "Wash" in him and will be very stubborn at times. Took several bad Tolleson outings for Banny to make a move. Im all for going with the highest % matchup. Dyson has been overused this season and is wearing down. Only 1k in last 9 appearances I believe. But it will likely take a couple more BS before any change is made.

More of a product of it being a percentages move, guess data says that its more efficient way to do the lineup

I know the Cubs do it on a daily basis, it has nothing to do with a player's perceived skill set

That's a pretty succinct way of describing where I am with Dyson right now.

I agree that he's been less effective lately but he's been no less effective than just about anyone that would assume his load

But he could probably stand to be used more sparingly going forward and allow those opportunities to be more evenly distributed going forward

Appearances should probably be distributed based on who is most rested going forward as I think all of these guys are pretty dang effective if their workload is managed properly and efficiently

So Bush (especially), Dyson and Jeffress wouldn't pitch until after Barnette, Diekman & Kela

7, 8 & 9 roles could be determined the day of based on current effectiveness and rest

Obviously there's unintended circumstances that play a role as wel, but it would be a start

Is Claudio currently on the 25 man roster? Is he the long man? If not who is?

Yes and he's about the closest thing we have to a garbage man/long man

But we have a couple guys in Barnette and Bush that regularly are trusted to pitch multiple innings

I'm glad you asked this. We've been making moves right-n-left and I thought he was up, but wasn't positive.

Luc put a good swing on it, just not enough though to get it out to straightaway CF

I have noticed our announcers using the phrase "manipulating the strike zone" when describing pitchers recently. Is this new vernacular, or am I just the last to know.....again?

New, AFAIK. Or rather, a new way of describing what pitchers have been doing since baseball was invented.
