happy news:suds:

Chris Carter - 1B - Yankees
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Chris Carter is "still the best alternative" at first base.

With Greg Bird still down with an ankle injury and looking a ways off from his return, Carter has seen the bulk of at-bats at first for the Yankees this season. Unfortunately. The sometime-slugger is hitting just .201/.287/.384 and has struck out in 66 of 159 at-bats. Cashman said that first base prospect Tyler Austin is "not ready yet." Looks like the Chris Carter Experience will continue until further notice.

All this will end up forcing them to sign Eric Hosmer this winter, they can't keep fucking around with 1B, they need someone reliable over there.

Babysitter canceled yesterday so I was home with the kids, hence wasn't on here. I just have one point on that disaster of a loss for the Red Sox. I hate how managers (because it's not just a Farrell problem) manage their bullpens. Bases loaded, nobody out, tying run on 2nd. That's going to be your highest leverage situation of the game, guaranteed. And yet, you don't bring in your (by far) best reliever because it isn't the 9th inning. Then the complete lack of logic in the "he's our closer, we want him finishing the game". So you'll lose the game, not use him at all, because it isn't the 9th inning. Freaking idiots.

Yeah - really exemplified the dopey "my closer only pitches the 9th attitude". I wouldn't even care if they used Kimbrel for the 8th only and assuming he got out of it, let Hembree or Scott come in with the bases clean in the 9th. Francona would have used Kimbrel in the 8th.

That's exactly what you should do. But he "wants Kimbrel to finish the game". So he refuses to bring him in so early to the point where he knows he'll have to bring in someone else to finish it.
