I got a pretty good laugh out of those moments in the video too. He's definitely not someone that I would want to learn from if I were a HS wide receiver. He's never been known for technique. Maybe he could have some good pointers about tracking the ball in stride, or getting good releases. Outside of that, he's still a very raw WR in his own right so there's not much technique to his game.

I will say this.

Nothing will help Bryant learn better than teaching fundamentals to others. He may not be helping those kids all that much, but the simple fact that he is there thinking about his craft in a new way will undoubtably help him develop his own skills.

Now, whether or not he can stay clean and actually put in the energy and effort needed to make him great is another story all together.

No offense, but I think "freak athlete" is a term that gets thrown around too much.
I think it's safe to say that EVERY NFL player has freakish talent?.
That's why they're in the NFL.

Problem is not all athletes have discipline, professionalism and heart.

And those are the abilities that elevate them so as to have a successful NFL career.

I disagree.

All NFL players are freak athletes when compared to you and I, but the term is reserved for those that separate themselves from their peers. Martavis Bryant is one of those players. He is a better "athlete" than most NFL players.

Most players fall somewhere in the meat of the bell curve in terms of athleticism. It is the unique specimens like Odell Beckham and Adrian Peterson who get labeled as freaks on the NFL level. Bryant has that kind of physical talent. Time will tell if he has learned his lesson and can make the most of it.

t, I get what you're saying but this is the crux of my view:

Obviously Bryant has natural talent and the abilities to give him the potential to be great. But he isn't yet.

Every season a new crop of freaks gets drafted and I have to hear this cliched argument on how great this select group of super freaks are compared to every other NFL player.

Sorry (and I'm not coming down on you personally), but I think I have NFL history on my side since not many freaks make that kind of a historical mark. True freaks like Randy Moss and Adrian Peterson are separated by years, if not decades. That in itself shows it is rare.

At least, from my perspective, the number of freaks is significantly lower than the yearly crop of rookies might have us believe.

And even if a freak or two do have that potential each new season, their success usually comes down to discipline, professionalism and heart. Otherwise they (1) won't be in the league long, or (2) they'll collect dust on an NFL roster, seeing limited action as announcers lament their failed potential.

All this is true. There is a lot that goes into making a successful pro. Many guys get labeled as "freaks" who are not deserving of the label.

Still, Bryant had a pretty awesome statistical season in 2015 despite lack of fundamental skill. The reason for his success is that his physical tools outweigh the lack of fundamentals because they are that impressive.

I am not saying Bryant will ever be a star, but if he can keep his head on straight he probably should be. That is a big if.

gimme the #2 receiving option on pitts offense all day for a great fantasy value pick on draft day.
problem is, who is it going to be?

I'd like to put some chips on Bryant being that guy, as he seems to have blow up potential against single coverage every time he's on the field. It's nearly impossible to guard both Bell and Brown, AND still contain a 3rd option.
BigBen gives them too much time to get open.

And we were just talking about this about how bad the media can be. Agent confirmed that Bryant HAS NOT applied for reinstatement, but will. Also reminds me of this... Take it away Denzel...

It was a revolving door all season... First it was Rogers, then Coates, then Heyward-Bey, then back to Rogers, then Ladarius Green, then Jesse James & Cobi Hamilton, etc etc. Nobody with any sort of consistency. In a perfect world its easy to think Martavis Bryant will be that guy, but I don't think the Steelers should be putting all their eggs in that basket. With Markus Wheaton set to hit free agency, a WR might be on the draft list this year.

wouldn't be surprised in the least if they continue to develop Rodgers/Coates/Hamilton behind Bryant next season, assuming that Bryant is cleared and able to play. Good track record of getting the most out of WRs throughout the years, can't see them veering from that path.

If anything negative pops up before the draft, def see them looking for an athletic TE/WR hybrid for the seems or an outside WR to line up in 2 and 3 wide sets.

Some dude from a local Pittsburgh paper debunked that one later in the same day. After shelling out top dollar to both AB and Bell, that'd be one big stretch to go get yet another receiver for top dollar
Yea. Steelers are still in need of that WR2 across from AB. Bryant shouldn't be counted on as that guy until proven otherwise. Same goes for Coates. One thing I didn't consider was, if the report is somewhat true, this could be a way for Colbert to gauge the WR FA market. Since Pryor is arguably a fringe tier 1 WR, this could be his way to get the tier 2's ceiling value. I'm guessing that market will be around $5-8mil, and that might be too high. Colbert has been known for contacting agents for this sort of info. It's not always that he's actually interested in said player.

The target I've been hearing for Pryor is 10-12 per, I sure ain't saying they wouldn't, but it doesn't make much since to me. There's tons of #2 types available in free agency that'll be cheaper. Heck, Brandon Marshall might even be cheaper as a grizzled ol' vet, and would be an awesome compliment to AB.
If Pryor is staring at "only" 8 million, he'd likely stay in Cleveland to be in his "hometown"

Off topic, but I think a team out there gives Pryor a shot to be their #1, negating any team trying to attain his services as their 2nd or 3rd receiving option. Eagles, Titans, Cardinals, Rams, 49ers - all looking for a big bodied, WR1 type to line up on the outside.

And I know we have a number of steelers faithful on the hoop, I still think they sit pat with the young guys they have and see if one or two of them can figure it out. Just seems like that's their track record for that position, and it's been working for over a decade. People probably didn't think Antonio Brown was anything special after his first year, and that letting Wallace go was a mistake, but steelers front office got it right.

See, brandon marshall 6 mill a year, but instead of being an excellent compliment to AB....it's OBJ. There will be plenty of respectable option for the Steelers cheaper than Pryor, who likely understands that given his situation as a 27-28 year old converted WR who is still a bit of a project, this is his one chance to really cash out and take advantage of the circumstances that created a 1000 yard season. He'll be reaching for every cent

For the record, I don't recall any Steelers fans on the hoop wanting to sign Wallace that year. Purely because he was wanting to be paid $60mil like the best receiver in the league, and we all knew he didn't deserve it. Thankfully he took his 'talents' to south beach.

Steelers have enough talent already in the building, but they just need one of those guys to step up. They cannot bank on Bryant being their savior, even if he ends up bein that guy. Wouldn't be surprised to see a WR drafted this year.

Martavis Bryant is now eligible to return from his one-year suspension, but the league office has yet to reinstate him.

Bryant applied for reinstatement on January 28, and the league has 60 days from that point to render a decision, meaning Bryant should know his future by the end of March at the latest. Bryant still has not met with Roger Goodell -- a requirement prior to reinstatement -- however, so it is likely the NFL plans to use most if not all of those 60 days. All accounts suggest Bryant has done what he needs to do to get back in the league, but his availability cannot be taken for granted until he is officially reinstated.

Got a month or two to speculate

Well the 60 day window that they're supposed to make a decision has come and gone in March, but the dictator Goodell doesn't have to abide by that, so let's hope it's soon.

I'm sue Goodell is under the belief he doesn't owe Bryant anything, but he does owe the Steelers franchise one before the draft
