I don't really agree here. Charles and Foles would free up 17M right off the bat. Colquitt is another ~3. Hardly losing anything between the 3 I suspect at this point. If you're cutting replacement value players that's pretty different from robbing peter to pay paul. You're just getting rid of dead weight. Trading Smith would bump it up to around 29M in cap space.
Take about $10-12m off the top for rookies and replacements for any future season ending injuries. You have to replace those three players, sure maybe it's costs you less than $20m? But you get what you pay for in most cases. So you're looking between $7-10m you want to give to a questionable Romo?

Let's say KC makes all these moves to make a deal for Romo to happen. What do you think it costs KC? Do you think KC gives up picks? Possible other trade to make it happen? Does Dallas suck up some of his contract?
Finally what deal does KC offer Romo?

Eh, 7M for this draft (where several replacements would be coming from anyways if you do it correctly) and a couple league minimum guys (~650k) will be fine. Especially if you draft a QB to go behind Romo akin to what Denver did with Osweiler for Manning.

But you get what you pay for in most cases. So you're looking between $7-10m you want to give to a questionable Romo?
No- 7-10M is backup money. That's what Nick Foles, Nick Foles, is scheduled to earn. Chase Daniel has a similar number in Philly IIRC. It'd be closer to 14-17M in AAV with a significant portion not being guaranteed.

What do you think it costs KC?
My guess it'd be very close to what Romo's cap hit would be if the Cowboys had traded him for team X. So around 14M + maybe another Mill or two. So around 14-17M is my guess before guarantees and structure are involved. If it's a trade? Hope they like a 5th round pick with some conditions.

Do you think KC gives up picks?
No- it's one reason I am pretty adamant it is highly unlikely, and certainly not a pick of any real value.

Possible other trade to make it happen?
Impossible for this not to be the case given Alex Smith's cap hit. My guess is Alex Smith is a Jet if Romo went to KC in this hypothetical.

Does Dallas suck up some of his contract?
Not sure I understand your question. If it's a trade, all gtd money is accelerated and put onto Dallas' cap. KC for the time being until they did/did not restructure Romo would have zero guaranteed money. That would happen regardless.

Finally what deal does KC offer Romo?
My guess is a backloaded contract with low guaranteed money in the 14-17M AAV range. The real issue starts when the cap would impinge on current and future FA's.

For the trade piece I was more thinking KC giving up a player or two to Dallas to try and offset the $ Dallas would be sucking up on the
Romo guarenteed $. Naturally Smith goes somewhere if this deal happens.

If Romo is wanting to go to a Championship competing roster he is going to have to take a very team friendly deal to make it happen. All those teams listed of Houston, Denver, and KC while they do or can get some cap space won't want to blow all the money on an aging QB.

So this is where Romo has to show what he wants...Does he want to compete for a Super Bowl and make closer to $10-12 million or does he want that $20 million contract from a bottom feeder team that will make him $40 million over a 2-year period?

Just speaking towards the Broncos since I know their situation best. It would not shock me if we went after him. Elway has shown though he already has a price in mind for Romo and will stick to his guns. Romo will have to come to the Broncos on their terms not his. Not sure Romo will want to go as cheap as the Broncos want him to go.

For me personally I'm not a fan of us picking him up. Depending what he would cost the team good chance that is another starter or two that we could pick up in FA. So let's say he wants that $14 million that he would get if traded. Well that is possibly 2 decent starters on the OL that could be protecting your young investment in Paxton Lynch and improving a very terrible run game.

Or it could be one huge impact player on defense to make sure that unit stays elite and maybe is even better than last year's.

If he goes to Denver several factors...............Broncos are playing the NFC East this year. He wouldn't make it through the Cowboy game alive. If the Broncos play the Raiders first, he won't make it out of that game alive.

I think the Cowboys are teasing a few teams to see if someone will offer them a 4th or 5th round pick.

Why wouldn't he make it through the Cowboy game alive? They don't have the greatest pass rush in the world and neither do the Raiders. You picked like 2 of the worst pass rushing teams we play next year. I'm much more worried as a Bronco fan of him facing our other 2 divisional rivals in the Chargers with Ingram and Bosa and then the Chiefs with Houston, Hali, and Ford.

I think Romo will take less to play for a team capable of winning a championship. Like 10M per for 2 seasons. He's already banking some good money from Dallas. I think it's Houston followed by Denver and perhaps KC as a 3rd possibility.

Houston makes a lot of sense. Gets to stay in Texas, probably best OL of the 3 teams, great defense, some nice weapons to throw to, and of course a nice warm stadium plus a southern division that should keep things nice weather wise. Easier division to win as well so better shot at competing for the Super Bowl.

I agree. Romo has more than enough money, at this point it's about winning. Houston would make sense since he won't have to worry about cold weather. Hopkins and Fuller would excel with Romo throwing to them.

Houston is the desired location I'd wager.

But Dallas is not going to come out of this with much if anything other than a cap hit no matter how they cut it.

I think he can play if he stays healthy. But there's the rub....

I believe the post June 1 cut is the most likely. Still leaves some cap hit but it spreads over 2 years???

This is just another reason I hate the fucking cap. It confuses the fuck out of everything.

But why would a bottom feeder give a 37 year old injury prone quarterback $40 mil?

It almost has to be a team that has a 2 year window to get to a Super Bowl using him as a starter. Nothing else makes sense.

Assuming he does not want to be a Brady backup, thus allowing the Pats to trade Jimmy G. type scenario.

Well that is an easy question...Ticket and merchandise sales. Think about the LA Rams right now. They have a young QB that struggled this past season and hasn't really won over the fans yet. Bring in a guy like Romo and it gets all the radio/media guys talking which gets the fans talking and leads to more ticket sales to see how this works out.

Or take teams like Cleveland or Chicago who most likely will take a QB early in this draft. This gives them a veteran to lean on for a year or two while the young kid develops. Helps the coaches hopefully win a couple more games making it easier to justify keeping them on as a head coach. I mean look at John Fox in Chicago. There was talk this year of him being fired. So he has to know he has one year to get this thing right or at least show improvement. Well not sure I want to lean on a rookie QB that isn't ready yet to help save my job.

He probably won't go to a bottom feeder but it could buy time for a future QB. QBs perform better when they have time to develop. If you're 2 years away from being competitive it may be beneficial to have a vet QB rather than a young one stunting his growth while he gets his ass handed to him.

How about this, Romo and Dez to Houston, you throw in that injured Dlineman you got to help with salary cap situations and it is a win/win?

You think you hate him now, wait till he breaks every record you got but still gets you no playoff wins.

I'm more concerned with him getting through the first preseason game without getting carted off the field and us spending another 10 weeks with a backup starting.

best place for Romo to go would be the Chiefs, but I think Alex Smith will be the starter there next year.
most likely place would be the Texans.
