I haven't... I will def check it out. :)

Right now I am on a Princess Diana kick... I watched a couple of documentaries on the conspiracies surrounding her death and I am addicted. This being a sports board, I realize it's not my target audience. But so far I haven't been able to put them down.

Finished Blood Meridian a while ago...a masterfully written and thought provoking book, to be sure. It did not pull me in emotionally like The Border Trilogy because there was not a single sympathetic character in BM to my mind...I can't say that's a flaw, just that I didn't feel as compelled to read on to see what happened to the people I felt invested in. McCarthy's use of the English language is truly incredible, I love to stop and savor his majestic run on sentences.
Am partway through Outer Dark, I had a hard time dealing with the first twenty or so pages (emotionally wrenching) but really want to see what is going to happen now. Not as well written as BM, but more engaging in some ways.

I am close to the end of Outer Dark, but have been putting off finishing it because I am convinced the ending will be truly awful.
Take McCarthy's typical darkness and add a baby...this is getting to be too much for me.

I'm finally getting around to reading Stormlight Archive, got sucked in right away. I really like Sanderson's style.

I find Sanderson really hit or miss. I didn't particularly care for Mistborn, and reading WoT all I could see were the differences which can only be blamed on him. I have no idea how much of the rest was actually him and how much was mapped out by Jordan. So while I don't give him credit for that series, I don't know that anyone else could have done any better in that situation.

But Stormlight Archive definitely grabbed me right away too, from probably 50 pages into Way of Kings.

After you read the 2 books in SA, you should read Warbreaker. It's free on his website, so don't pay for it (like I did). And it's actually free from the writer and intended to be that way, not pirated or anything. But his publisher also edited it and put it in print in an actual book. It's a standalone book, but 1 character does make an appearance in book 2. Read up on "the Cosmere" if you're interested in that whole interaction.

Damn good books, I really enjoyed them. Been tempted to try his Mistborn series as well, but just haven't yet.

Finished the 2 The Kingkiller Chronicle books, going to get the 2.5 book soon. Rothfuss is another solid fantasy author

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is DEFINITELY not book 2.5 of Kingkiller Chronicles Don't go into it thinking that or I can almost guarantee you'll be disappointed. That's not to say it's bad. I ended up kind of enjoying it. Eventually. Which isn't to actually say it's good either. It's different. It's well written. Detailed. The character is likable. It's just... different.

This is the only book of his I've read but this book was awesome... Read it...

I feel like it's been a while since I read anything, so can't recall if I read that one, but I've enjoyed everything I read by Moore. I would recommend reading some of his others works if you haven't already.

You might also enjoy Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, as well as the Discworld series (my personal favorite).

The Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite book. About to start the Game of Thrones series, wondering how it stacks up to the great TV series

I hated the first book of his so bad I still have not watched the series. I don't get the appeal at all for that dude.

I like the second set of Mistborn books more than the first 3. I am looking forward to the 4th of that series quite a bit.

WoT was hard from him, but I know that Jordan wrote the ending at least before he died, he knew he was sick so he wrote the ending and rough drafted as much as he could. I was not a huge fan of Sandersons books, but you almost get the feeling that he was under direction to wrap it up more than finish it. No matter who they got to finish it I would have been surprised if they had been as..verbose? as Jordan was.

I absolutely LOVE Stormlight Archive though. Even if he took his most bad ass character and made him a whiny bitch in the second book. There is no book coming out that I want to read more than the 3rd of that series.

I like Jim Butcher a lot. Not a huge fan of the Dresden series, but I really enjoyed Furies of Calderon. I have really enjoyed the Cinder Spires series he just started as well.

Recently let my kids watch the first two Back to the Future films. That was a total trip. Kids were like, "wait, 30 years ago they thought we'd have hoverboards but not cell phones?"

It's funny, when you watch old stuff from the 70s and 80s (or even further back I guess, for instance The Jetsons) about "the future" it's almost always all about moving people and physical things faster. Hollywood (and they certainly weren't the only ones) didn't realize that the future was going to be built on moving information faster.

Good Omens is one of my favorite books ever. I have read most of Christopher Moore's stuff, Lamb being the first one I read. I enjoyed it a lot, maybe one of my favorites of his.

Loved the Dresden Files. They have kind of taken a dip in quality, but I will still make it a point to go out and get the next one as soon as it comes out. Good, trashy reading for me.

I don't know how I really felt about Cinder Spires.

The Gentlemen Bastards series (Lies of Locke Lamora) by Scott Lynch is another one I would highly recommend.

I should have gotten it as a audio book for my last drive to NJ. Would have been perfect.

Instead I am listening to The Magicians, which is alright but kind of too much like another Harry Potter/Name of the Wind clone where some kid is learning magic.

I did not care for the whole cat deal with Cinder Spires, but the airship battles and the Silkweavers I liked a lot.

it has potential, especially with Butcher as the author. I love the humor he displays in the Dresden Files. I won't write it off yet.

It is, kinda hard to put 1500 pages into 2 hours. The book was different and better, but I like the movie

I heard it was darker. Which I dig.

Expand on that for us? Why don't you like the first book exactly?
