Blowing a 7 game series or, in the Yankee's case, losing 4 in a row is worse in my mind than losing in 1 game on a fluke play but they are all huge upsets.

Agreed, they are. Baseball is such a crazy game though...The Braves were up 2-0 on the NYY and lost 4 straight

That may be true now but the Yanks sealed the deal in 1998 when they had the record, the Dolphins had the undefeated season and the Bulls won the year they set the record so it wasn't too long ago the teams with the records did win

A triple Bogey on the final hole for a pro is unheard of. Heck, pros are so good he could've used his putter tee to green and likely salvaged only a double.

Not the final hole, but Money and I were just talking about Spieth's quad on 12 in the Masters...the last hole, I agree, but Carnousti was a beast....but after all of that it still wasn't over for him was my point...he lost the lead, but didn't lose the tournament on that hole.

I disagree. The Yanks had no business being up 3-0 in that series with their awful starting pitching. Still a tremendous choke though
They didn't have the greatest pitching staff ever assembled. But Mussina was a regular Sox Killer. All they had to do was survive to the mid/late innings and hand it over to the bullpen. They were 40 games above .500 that season.

But thong is though is their BP and the great Mariano Rivera blew games 4 and 5.

They had a good 1st half. Vasquez was an all star and was useless by the 2nd half. El Duque and Brown were hurt (Brown broke his hand punching a wall that idiot) and were barely able to pitch and Lieber faded badly in the 2nd half. All they had was Mussina and Mariano. They didn't have the kind of pen they had in the late 90's.

Either way I have it

Golden State - Up 3-1 with 2 games at home, only lost 2 or 3 games at home all year and it was the finals.

Yankees - Even though it wasn't the finals, an epic collapse losing 4 in a row.

Pats - Anything can happen in a single game championship.

I might be confused? Are you saying Jean Van De Velde didn't loose it on that hole? Technically, you're right it went into a playoff. But De Velde no doubt lost it on the 72nd hole with that triple. If it was one or two strokes maybe, but three strokes unheard of.

Yep thank you Mariano. I never thought I'd see that.

He blew game 4 but Torre blew game 5 by not bringing him in until too late. I think it was 2nd and 3rd and no one out.

I'll never forget opening day the next year when the Sox fans gave him a sarcastic round of applause. Mariano smiled, stepped forward and tipped his cap. Everyone in the place went nuts

I'm with you, the biggest final hole collapse that I'm aware of. No doubt he lost the lead and if you want to say he lost the tournament (I'm buying that too) but my point was after the 72 holes were played, he had not lost, he was tied...there was still more golf to be played...he had a chance at redemption.

Whereas with Phil, he didn't have as big of a lead, but after he finished holing out on the 72nd...Ogilvy was the USO Champion. It's not often a pro golfer blows a lead and wins in a playoff, but it's happened before, I wanna say Tiger did it, maybe Arnie too.

Sox made the same mistakes with keeping Pedro in too long and bringing him out of the bp. We all have our crosses to bear.

Biggest choke in history was Northern Iowa blowing a 12 point lead against tA&M with 35 seconds left in this year's NCAA tournament.

Talk about hindsight. In most golf collapses if a player only knew. They could likely just go with irons, 3W or 5W which are pretty safe clubs for a pro. But, ego takes over. They feel they're playing great, don't want to chance not being aggressive, wanting to make that one last memorable shot. Then, BAM! out of nowhere lost championship.

I want to play a round just using say a 7I, wedges and putter to see how I do compared to a full bag of clubs? Not in a 3 club tourney just during an actual round. I bet I score about the same. Damn ego.

I say it should be number one because I believe they were three outs away from advancing to the WS two times, it was their bitter rival, winning 4 straight after losing the first 3 had never been done before and hasn't been done since, and it paved the way for bostons first WS title in 86 years.

He had a horrible hole. He quadruple bogeyed #12. He then played the final 6 holes at 1 under and shot a 73. Hardly what I would call "falling apart".

Well when the best golfer in the world has been commanding his game the entire Masters and is looking like he is going to run away with the thing yeah a Quadruple is falling apart. I mean it isn't heard of among pros even average ones to go out and get a quadruple. So to then do it in the final round of the Masters when you have a commanding lead yeah I would call that falling apart. It wasn't doing it on the 18th hole like we saw at the British but I would say him shooting that and losing like he did is a bit more surprising considering he is what the 2nd ranked golfer in the world.

I still put it behind the Warriors since it wasn't in the finals. Pats 3rd since it was one game and anythign can happen in one game
