Just looking at your team avatars, I'm guessing you haven't had that problem in quite some time.

LOL!!! Well, two of them anyway... But if you follow to the logical conclusion that if I'm a Chicago fan in general it makes more sense...

And FSU has a recent title... C'mon man! :D :suds:

Its probably because I'm a miserable f**king human being, but...

I love it when fans and a city and a team get all geeked up ready to celebrate as if its a foregone conclusion and then... Have to put it all on ice for another day. LOL!!!

Believe it or not, the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia is largely Pittsburgh country and I was semi-shocked at the number of fans that were having parties on a week night etc... in anticipation of the big victory celebration...

So yeah, I sat in my dank dark cavern laughing maniacally at the result of last night's game... muahahahahahahaaaaaaa..

(BTW, these feelings obviously don't apply when its MY team... ;) )
meh...opportunities like this come maybe a few times in a lifetime, and in the case of Pittsburgh, not only has a major championship not been won on home turf since 1960, but this was the first opportunity to do so as well since then, so it was exceptionally special. I doubt many were thinking it was a foregone conclusion, but to pass up the opportunity would be even more stupid. I regret that my job kept me from making the jaunt up from FL to be a part of the experience, regardless of the outcome.

I'd rather have the opportunity than none at all.

Meh... First World problems in the world of sports I guess... I don't think anyone anywhere in the country is shedding any tears that Pittsburgh hasn't won a title at home since 1960...

Whatever.

The Pens and Steelers have had a ton of success (Including holding both the Stanley Cup and Lombardy Trophy simultaneously a few years back)...

It seems every town celebrates in the streets when their team wins a championship whether the game occurred in town or out of town, so the only difference is that the 20,000 or so in the stadium actually get to see it live. Good for those 20,000 who had the corporate connections to get them a ticket, but for everyone else? Meh...

And yeah, as a Blackhawks fan we had the same thing last year. Oh the Hawks haven't clinched a series at home since the 1940s or 50s or whatever...

Really? When you get to the point where THAT is your chief complaint? I think you're just looking for some reason to complain or pretend to be "hard luck" somehow...

As a Sharks fan. I would have no trouble celebrating my team winning the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh.

Or freaking Timbuktu if necessary.

Remarkable amount of salt from neutral fans about a fanbase being excited. If I was in town, I probably would've considered going into town. Wouldn't you? Had potential to be a special night. I dont give a rats ass where they win it, but winning in five would be better IMO than any of this extra stress, hah. Also, while I enjoyed watching with my dad...the rest of my family and their comments were just not needed. Game 5 was brutal. "They suck...shoot the puck...are they even trying?"

Again, most towns celebrate downtown regardless of where the game is won... Was Pittsburgh dead after their last Stanley Cup or Super Bowl win? Everyone stayed inside and called each other? That's kind of my fascination with this line of thinking. Its really kind of irrelevant. Just something for the talking heads to chatter about.

No, but just makes the experience a bit more exciting when it's shared like that. Even when it doesn't involve my team, I've always found winning at home to be more fun. There's just something about it.

Tribalism.

Everybody grooving to the same beat.

Quite exhilarating.

Well, as a neutral observer, I would always prefer to see a team clinch a championship at home in front of their fans. The atmosphere in the arena is fantastic and it makes for a very special celebration.
Conversely, it is really hard being on the other side of it when you have to watch the enemy team hoist the trophy in front of you. Most folks are pretty respectable and give the obligatory applause but it has to be gut-wrenching. Even tougher for the players.
I thought for sure the Pens were going to win the other night when they tied it up so quickly. Then they rattled a couple of shots off the iron and really dominated the game for awhile. I give the Sharks credit for hanging tough and getting the win they needed but they really need to thank their goalie for that. Pittsburgh peppered him and he stood on his ear at times to give them the win. If the Sharks complete the comeback and win, there is no doubt who the Conn Smythe winner is, imo.

My biggest beef with the latest discussion was the line "getting geeked up to celebrate like it was a foregone conclusion"

Sheesh

Right, so why even bring this up? Just wanted to be part of the talking heads, I guess.
