Would the Oilers move pick #4 for Travis Hamonic?

Gotta think the Coil would want a little bit more, or they'd need to dump salary in the deal. Like say... Griffiin Reinhart? :dhd:

Aren't you happy to hear that the commissioner of the NHL is proactive rather than reactive?

Bettman was asked if he was happy that the team with the highest odds of winning the lottery did so.

“The lottery is intended to give a fair weighting based on performance and frankly the competitive balance we have is so tight,” he said. “Anybody can finish anywhere, there’s only a few points difference in the standings.

“We don’t look for a particular outcome, as long as the system itself works well we’re OK.”

And what would have happened, had the Edmonton Oilers won their fifth first-overall pick in seven years?

“The good news is we don’t have to deal with it, it didn’t happen
.”

maybe it's just b/c I was on the wrong end of it, but it seems a little fucked up that the teams in the #2 and #3 slot had the highest odds (by a significant margin) of picking 4th and 5th respectively.

Actually the team that finished dead last had the best odds of picking 4th.

Vancouver's best odds were of picking exactly where they are picking.

Now, people will argue what the best way to do this is until the cows come home but I for one think the system worked justly and fairly.

There's no way to fix it. The goal is to stop teams from playing badly on purpose, yet teams that are bad need the best players. The entire process contradicts itself.

It's never going to make everyone happy. The best you can hope for is if you lose, the teams ahead of you pick the wrong guy.

I thought I made that pretty clear in my OP.

Reviews the recent drafting history of the Oilers and Canucks.

/To be fair, Canucks have drafted quite the well the last couple of years. Oilers still putrid.

I would hesitate to say they've drafted "quite well" until the players they've drafted have played 4 or 5 years. Today, guys like Virtanen and Horvat could easily be top 6 or Cody Hodgson 2.0's. Just using my Leafs as examples, I'm excited about a lot of guys but Marner, Nylander, even Matthews can all wind up busts and what would be considered "good drafting" today looks very Leafesque 5 years from now.

Canucks drafted Hutton 4 years ago and he looks like a keeper so there is definitely reason to think they've done at least a decent job with their picking.

We can judge the Oilers' body of work because they've been at it since 2009 and gotten fucking nowhere.

Mitch Marner looks to be the real deal to me (as does William Nylander). I can't see Matthews being a bust either. In my opinion, the Leafs are further along in their rebuild than the Oilers and they've only been at it for a year and a bit.

Is Logan Browns mom, Kirk McLeans ex wife ?

/poonerman wanted me to ask

Jeff Brown was in the cesspool yesterday and they asked him where "his son" Logan got his size from ... Jeff said he's not sure because he's the tallest of his side (6'2) and his "wife" doesnt have alot of height in her lineage ... he said (jokingly ... but deep down inside seriously if i may assume so) that he always wondered about that

does make one wonder

I mean, I have no reason to believe any of them will fail. But until they're all productive NHLers, they all have as good a chance of being stars as they do of being Stefans.
