Yep, unfortunately for him too late too play in the NFL. He is going to have to find another route. I'm sure he is going to live with the regret of not taking advantage of his NFL situation for the rest of his life.

It can't be that painful ... It would be different if he made no $ .... Dude walked away with 31 mill guaranteed...

Andrew Walter. Just as bad as Russell (but at least he cared).

Good memory. Walter didn't have much in the way of talent but he did play hard and he played better than Russell. The players rallied around him.

Yea, I don't feel sorry for him because of the money. But if he really is genuine in that article about wanting to play, he is going to regret his effort when he had the chance.

I'm not sure what team would even waste the QB space on him even if he was free. Is he still swallowing donuts and pastries?

Good memory.

Eh, kind of. I knew it was Andrew Waltsomething. Thought it was Walton at first. Had to look it up.

he played better than Russell.

Not really. Career 3 TDs, 16 INTs, a 52.3 completion percentage, and a 52.6 QB rating. Only thing better than Russell was completion percentage.

Former No. 1 pick QB Russell would 'play for free'

I have to be honest, I'm no LSU fan, but my heart goes out to this dude. He seems to love the game more than people realized, and it sounds like he's done a great job of getting back into better shape compared to what he was at. He also seems to be owning up to his bust status and all the criticism he got. It'd be a helluva comeback story.
Jamarcus was broke when he tried to get back into the NFL last time. He then received a $3M dollar settlement from the Raiders and went back into hiding. Looks like he's blown through that $3M and is looking for another payday. Broncos still need a QB, right?

My favorite story about JaMarcus Russell: the Raiders coaches suspected that Russell wasn't studying the game plan dvd's they were sending home with him. To confirm their suspicions, they sent home a blank dvd and told him to study it because that was the game plan for their next game. When he came back, they asked him what he thought of the game plan and he said, "looks good."

That should tell you all you need to know about JaMarcus Russell.

NO doubt.... If you truly have love for the game, yeah it will sting... He's just a perfect example of why rookies should NEVER get big contracts coming in...

Next Question, how much is he willing to pay?

lol I was thinking exactly this. The Raiders need to respond by telling him he'll have to pay them to have a place in the building, and it might not necessarily be on the team :)

Heart goes out to the dude? For what? Claiming 10s of millions and then turning into a fatass? Heart goes out to the dude!? It's not like this guy overcame cancer or some orphan story, he ate his fat ass out of the league and walked way with more money than this board will probably collectively combine to achieve.

Across the field, are you serious? Your heart goes out to the dude... ugh, you might be the biggest BS poster on this forum as of late with this comment. Love the game? The douche monger collected a couple years of paychecks, packed on the pounds and checked out. Now that he's likely bankrupt he's asking to get back in the league? Ugh.

Hell of a, no wait, "helluva" comeback story....... :L. Hopefully you meet JaWalrus and he eats your ass.

Wow dude, calm the fuck down.

I pointed out why I like this story. Instead of going off and getting mixed up in crime and drugs like a lot of former busts go on to do, he's doing the opposite and genuinely trying to get back. The NFL isn't a league that's exactly known for his humility, so seeing a guy write letters to all 32 teams just to give him a shot at the scout team after being the #1 pick, yeah I think it's a good thing. I've never once said he didn't fuck up before, because he definitely did. So have a lot of guys. So what's wrong with rooting for a dude that's trying to get his life back in order?

Not a Raider fan but I follow Bay Area sports media. If Russell really loved the game he sure as heck didn't show it while he was on the Raiders. It was quite the opposite. He acted like he didn't give a damn while he was in Oakland.

Well to be fair back then in Oakland there really wasn't that much to play for, I mean there was no serious direction from management. The mentality was players can act like moron's off the field if they wanted to as long as they showed on Sunday's chanting the team slogan, "just win."
