Lynch sent a tweet during the Super Bowl of his shoes on a line, "hanging up the boots"

We saw it coming, but the league just lost a great player and personality, even though he didn't talk to the media.

Absolutely fantastic news as a Hawks fan. That's another $5M or so cap savings (we would've cut him anyway).

Lynch was a beast... I dare say the best RB Seattle had, but time to move on. Sucks I'll never be able to say beast mode again, Lynch needs a sports science done on him.

I hope he does. He's never missed a collision and that will probably be hard on his heath in the next 20 years. Beast, put your feet up and take it easy. Thank you for all of the great games!!

It took me like 5 minutes before I realized those were shoes. I figured out he was retiring from the "two fingers" emoji but I was just like "WTF is that pic?" :L

Probably best for both he and the team, but is anyone actually surprised by this?

Good luck in your next phase of life Marshawn.

Shaun Alexander?

Nah... Lynch brought more ... Shaun had a great run, but he didn't battle through contact and step up in the playoffs like Lynch did ... Plus Shaun had a way better O-line he was running behind ... Lynch just plowed through defenses ...

Shaun Alexander says hi

:sigh:

We have already debunked this theory with the fact that Alexander had 2 of the greatest OLmen in Seahawks history blocking for him in Steve Hutchinson and Big Walt Walter Jones will on the other hand.

Lynch had none of these guys.

Curt warner was no slouch.

Nice call Rock. Curt Warner was a better back than Alexander. The guy was possibly the best hard cutting back I have ever seen not named Barry Sanders. Then a bad seam in the astroturf ripped out his knee and he was never really close to the same.

Alexander was a smooth, gliding back who gained big yards but because he had possibly the best OL in the league at the time he was never lacking for holes and never had to fight and scratch for yards like Lynch did.

Lynch will be missed but if Rawls can play at anywhere near the level he did last year before the injury then a more than capable replacement is already in place.

Beast Mode can now spend the reast of his life kicking back, hitting the bong, and playing Doom. Wish I could say the same!

Warner played during the...yuck...dave krieg era. Terrible run blocking yet he managed 1400 yard seasons. Had he not shredded that knee...

Curt was good NO doubt ... It's just a shame he got injured and never really bounced back fully... But yeah, he was my other favorite running back in our teams history... Curt could run sideway's and fast as he ran forward... lol... Amazing runner for sure...

Hawks fans have a love/hate relationship with Shaun A.

Both he and Chris Warren had great talent, but were a little shy on grinding out an extra yard.

I agree, Warner COULD have been the alltime Seattle great back. But that whole longevity deal. :(

Lynch reportedly said he's got the first dollar he ever earned in salary.
