Also, I've just been informed that a person foul call was not called on the final play and that Michigan should have gotten a first down, even with the return (which should have been overturned). Apparently an MSU player ran into the long snapper immediately, which is an instant personal foul. You cannot make contact with the long snapper for 1 second after the ball has been snapped, which MSU ignored and wasn't called. So basically, Michigan should have won and now I can blame the refs.

Pretty clear to me. Knocks over the long snapper instantly. Cheaters.

He's a great punter. He had an 80 yard punt, the 2nd longest in Michigan history, in the same game. But most punters will fumble the ball at some point in their college careers. It's really unfortunate that this one happened when it did and that MSU was in position to return it for a TD.

That's what I'm saying. I think the facts that 1) Michigan was willing to punt the ball and 2) this excellent punter just kept pinning MSU deep, are the only reasons Michigan was winning. MSU seemed to win on offense and defense, but between going 0-4 on 4th down attempts, and having O'neill keep dropping bombs on them, they were behind.

Crazy game, for sure.

Interesting. First I've heard of this.

Got something to back that up?

In those rules, it also interprets the snap to begin the moment the snapper's hands move. Hard to tell without slo-mo and a timer, but it seems pretty close to a second between his hands starting the motion and him being steamrolled.

I'm guessing that since Harbaugh didn't say anything about it -- particularly since he was not shy about complaining about the officiating -- that it wasn't really an issue and Maize is just grasping at straws.

Here, just take one:

Fully aware of the rule, dude ... that wasn't my 'question' though.

The question was the fact that, now all of a sudden, somebody is suggesting that an infraction took place under that rule. First I've heard of that one. This, after all of the talk on news, radio, print media ... who/where is this allegation coming from? A legit source OR some new butthurt excuse/theory from a rustled fan?

I heard it from Sam Webb talking about it on WTKA this morning.

Sorry, dude. Your 'question' was pretty vague. I was just trying to be helpful.
Yes, maybe it was. I guess I should have been more clearer.

I'll await M&B's source for this newfound 'theory' of why scUM lost the game, now. :heh:

Ahhh ... Sam Webb (whoever the hell that is)! Per chance, would Sam Webb be some local sports wonk in the greater AA area? Geeeee ... I wonder ...

A second is a very long time in sports context. Hell, watch the game clock. A second doesn't even tick off the clock until the ball has already been fumbled by O'Neill.

I guess Michigan was cheating too as they were grabbing Michigan State's receivers arms. Accept the loss and move on. Maybe you can be like Michigan State and have your only two losses be the teams in the playoff finals. :suds:

He's a Michigan insider on Scout and one of the more connected people in the Athletic Department. Also hosts a morning radio show on AM about Michigan Football. Yes, he's biased. But the rule seems pretty clear to me.

It's unlikely that a game clock starts at exactly the moment the snappers hands move.

I'm really hoping OSU will get all worn out by MSU the week prior to us taking them on and we can pull that win off. A win against OSU would turn my mood right around.
