I'm getting closer to being interested in hockey again.

Playoffs just around the corner.

Maybe I'll finally get to see all the Montreal games.

"It’s more difficult to make the playoffs in this league than it is to win the Stanley Cup"

Darryl Sutter.

Um. So. That's why 16 do one of those and 1 does the other?

I can see the Leafs adding College players at this point in the season, but Chicago?? :noidea:

One of the terms of his signing was probably that he'd get a game this season to burn a year on the contract

Statistically speaking I don't think that flies, but he's won 2 of the last 3 Cups so I'll go with Dutter's logic on this one.

I am guessing that as well, which is why it seems so odd for CHI to indulge.

I highly doubt you would ever see DET capitulate on this point.

I would imagine that getting a player you like signed for a few years outweighs whatever the difference is between 8 minutes of Baun and 8 minutes of Carcillo for a single game

so close to the cap with the Toews Kane extensions kicking in that they need cheap players

as a fan of a team that has made the playoffs 10 of the last 13 seasons, shut the fuck up Darryl Sutter.

People love that change of pace type shit, it's the same reason that people suggest CFL players for the Lou Marsh Award. Or how (and I'm going to mattola myself here) Wayne didn't even win the Pearson (Lindsay) Award when he set the single season points and assists records.

All true. Especially with the Lou - the CFL'er winning it in 2013 was one thing, but when Doughty is one of if not the best players on both the Cup-winning and gold medal-winning teams and the award went to a bobsledder? GTFO.

The bobsledder I can actually understand more easily, since while that athlete would still technically be eligible every year they really only have a shot at winning once every 4 years, and one can at least legitimately say that she was the best in the world at her sport. But if you're ranking football seasons worldwide in 2013, realistically where did Jon Cornish even rank? I mean, did Scott Mathieson get any votes for helping the Nomiuri Giants to 3 straight Central League championships and leading the league in saves in 2014? And isn't there also a pretty strong argument that starting all season at an important position for the team with the best record in the NFL and keeping a damaged Peyton Manning upright and healthy is a more impressive athletic (football) accomplishment? But Orlando Franklin wasn't even a finalist.

As one of a few CFL fans on this board, I have no problem with Cornish winning the Lou Marsh award. Don't really understand the rationale of comparing his numbers with other football leagues since this is a Canadian athletic award and he did something that hadn't been done in a quarter century of CFL play.

It's like giving the award to an AHL'er for setting an AHL record.

I mean, the award is for the most outstanding Canadian athlete, no? And football players outside of the CFL are eligible, are they not? So that's pretty much my rationale for comparing Cornish to another Canadian athlete playing football in another (superior) league.

Like I said, no one would vote for Scott Mathieson for dominating a weaker league, because they know full well that there are better Canadians playing in MLB. Is the fact that he's in Japan while he's doing it instead of Canada really that big of a difference? Because while i could be wrong, I don't think there's anything in the rules/voting guidelines about it
