Randy Gregory Failed Drug Test At Combine

Nebraska DE/OLB Randy Gregory admitted to NFL.com that he failed a drug test at February's Combine.
He tested positive for marijuana. "I blame myself," Gregory said. Even before learning of the flunked test, two executives told NFL.com's Kim Jones that Gregory had concerning "off-the-field issues." Gregory claims he used to smoke marijuana to deal with anxiety, but has moved past it. "I don't wake up every day saying, I'd really love to go smoke," he said. "It's not a struggle for me every day (now), it really isn't. In the past, hell yeah, it's been a struggle. It really has been. Now, I'm focused on my dream." Gregory also understands the team that drafts him next month may do so while crossing its fingers. Because of his failed combine test, Gregory will come into the NFL already in Stage 1 of the league's substance abuse program.

From the media scuttlebutt, Gregory already seemed to be dropping before this into the latter half of the top 10. I doubt he slides much further though for a single positive MJ test. But what it might do is make teams like the Browns, who have had issues with players suspended because of drug issues, pass on him.

Probably drops the guy out of the top 15 just because the margin is so thin between Fowler, Beasley, Ray and Dupree. His weight and tape aren't fantastic, either. I wouldn't be surprised if people have taken him completely off their big boards.

I am not of the school that talent trumps all.

Character and off the field issues do matter. Especially this early in a players career.

Personally I could care less about the weed. But it is punishable by the league with suspensions. Those are the rules, hypocrisy or not.

I don't want players where that is going to be an issue.

While I don't disagree, this isn't about him lighting up, this is about his judgement. He knew he was subject to testing, yet he toked anyway. That tells me his head isn't right and his draft position wasn't the most important thing to him. Anyone really want to risk th.e 5th pick overall on a guy that has questionable judgement and doesn't put his nfl career first and foremost?

Gregory now has 3 failed drug tests in last 15 months. Academic issues cost him scholarship at Purdue. Broken leg in 2012. All red flags.
