I've always liked Stoops (dont tell all my Horns friends). He's what a football coach is supposed to be, tells it like it is, does not give a shit if anybody likes him or not.

I don't think Bob Stoops has had a season ruined by his biggest rival, mainly because of BS AP voting and the fact that Oklahoma State has historically sucked ass.

It's hard to want to play a game knowing you were 1 second away from possibly making college football history, and having that taken away by your biggest rival.

2008 was very similar, hell we had the lead against Florida in the 4th but our playcalling went out the window as did our discipline and we lost. We were a quarter away from playing for it all, but had to settle with playing Utah.

If any Oklahoma fans can bring up a similar situation, please inform me. Because it has happened to Saban teams twice, with the same result in the bowl games following.

Stoops earned the right to talk trash. But it may come back to bite him.

All we had to do is win and he wouldn't be saying anything. If they didn't get motivated, maybe stuff like this will help.

Exactly. I was kind of surprised though that Saban would let that happen again. I would have thought he would be pounding that Utah game into their heads. Or maybe after winning all those titles, he just doesn't give a shit about bowl games :noidea:

I'm not saying he can't talk trash, he won fair and square. But to say he has a built in excuse for losing is a load of shit. I'm sure he had built in excuses for losing to Texas and Baylor the way they lost those games.

Saban wasn't saying that Oklahoma was a consolation game. He was saying that the Sugar Bowl is a consolation game.

Stoops hasn't even won his conference in the past 3 years. Hell this is the first BCS game they have made since Sam Bradford was quarterback.

Maybe OU was the better team?

Stoops is calling him out for what he said. Stoops would not be talking if Saban had not opened his mouth. Deflecting to OU's recent record is nonsense. Saban said something he should not have said. Pretty simple.

When standards are as high as they are at Alabama, it's always good to be a team with something to prove in bowl season.

2008 we had nothing to prove. We lost our chance to prove it.
2013 was ditto the above. It wouldn't change anyone's perspective to beat Oklahoma.

2010 was different. We had a ton of talent, and ended up with 3 losses. We had something to prove: that we were better than our record said we were. So what does Bama do?

They go out and beat a 1 loss B1G co champ 49-7, hold them to negative 50 yards rushing, and didnt allow a score until there were 3rd stringers and walk onse on the field.
