I have read a couple reports the last few days saying Dallas is seriously considering making Linehan play caller on offense. Callahan would remain coordinator. This makes no sense. How convoluted is Jerry going to make this process? This team is never going to get the ball snapped before the play clock expires.

In all seriousness, this just makes no sense. Dallas had the 5th highest scoring offense in the league - and was a handful of points away from having the second highest scoring offense. And Dallas decides to tinker with the offense some more? Even more disturbing is, I have also read reports that Dallas may be considering a WR high in the draft. Word is Jerry likes Mike Evans.

I swear, if Jerry picks another WR in the first 3 rounds, I will no longer support the Cowboys as long as Jerry is actively involved in running the team. Not that it matters.

Sorry, no links.

Dude is desperate to be the next Mike Martz. You'll see so many slants patterns you'll go cross eyed. His prime objective on just about every play is for the WR to catch the ball on a 3 yard slant then run 77 yards for the TD. Then when this doesn't work after 3 quarters, it's time to bomb it to your top WR and hope for a miracle. Good luck.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the Cowboys are discussing hiring ex-Lions OC Scott Linehan as their offensive play-caller.

The Cowboys currently have Bill Callahan under contract as their offensive coordinator, but it sounds like Linehan is a candidate to replace him or reduce his role. Linehan has spent the last five seasons coordinating Detroit's offense and was let go with coach Jim Schwartz this offseason. In addition to drawing interest from Dallas, he also interviewed with the Ravens earlier this week and is considered a finalist for Baltimore's offensive coordinator job. Jan 24 - 6:41 PM

My take away from this move is that Jerry wants the ball force fed to Dez. Linehan will do that. But will Romo? I have seen Romo freeze out certain receivers at times. Romo likes to spread the ball around.

Good question. Your TE is superior to ours as is your second WR and slot etc...in Detroit, Stafford hasn't had a lot of choices since every target Mayhew drafts for him either ends up hurt or institutionalized.

Someone other than the 3 guys involved last year must call the plays. They are all responsible for the losses incurred for abandoning the run. None were held accountable, but that is Dallas for you...

Okay, if the idea is to run the ball more, then Scott Linehan is the perfect choice. It all makes sense now! Hire a guy who has arguably been more pass happy than the guys we have now. :L

But to say the offense is the reason we lost games is really letting the defense off easy. Yes, the offense could have and should have iced a few games, but the offense held up its end of the deal.

Garrett, Callahan, and Linehan will play Rock Paper Scissors, to determine who's play is called.

I didn't say they should hire him. But hiring ANYONE else would at least send the message that if you don't run at least a little more at the right times you'll be gone. It isn't letting the defense off easy to blame the play calling for a couple of the losses we had. They sucked too, but when all you need to do is run out the clock and you don't you should be held accountable.

By the way, do you know Detroit ran the ball 100 times more than us last year?

I didn't know that. Thanks for pulling that up. It makes me feel a little better.

Linehan likes to run the short slant. Marquise Lee would be perfect, but we have more desperate needs early in the draft. I would suggest drafting Tevin Reese in the 3rd or 4th round. He is a burner and his speed would compliment Bryant,Williams,Harris and Beasly. Reese is a true deep threat.

Looks like the same old dysfunction continues to spear its ugly head from the owner to the front office and coaching staff.

Looks like Callahan may be off to Cleveland. May as well let JG call the plays, unless they are going to let a new OC run what he wants. Otherwise, whats the point?

Interesting??? All I find about Callahan and Cleveland is the Browns MAY TARGET him IF he's fired by Dallas.

Apparently JG was calling the plays again at the end of the year...and that includes the GB game...

So in this case, Linehan would make a suggestion to Bill who would change or relay that suggestion to JG who would then change or relay that suggestion to Romo

and Romo will "kill kill kill" it and run whatever audible he wants. And they are talking about dropping the play clock from 40 to 35 seconds? Not good

I definitely think we need some changes on offense. They rarely showed up until the second half, and in a lot of games we could of/should of easily put away - the play calling was herendous and we'd end up settling for a three and out only to rely on the worst defense in Cowboy history? No thanks, not again. That being said, I'm not sure that Linehan's "style" of play calling is what we need. As everyone knows, we throw the ball too much as is - even when we don't need to and the situation doesn't call for it. I don't mind JG as the head coach, but he needs to stick with that and NOT call ANY plays anymore. I think Callahan should go, or be demoted - and I also don't see much point in keeping Kiffin around for one more year... I think we should cut our losses with him. I believe he's outdated and is not going to get thru to todays players. None of this is likely, so just sit back and enjoy the merry-go-round boys.

Linehan is a good hire if for no other reason than it's a Garrett hire.

Anyone other than Garrett would be fine with me. Linehan had Calvin Johnson and not much else as far as receivers go. I predict that Jerrah goes offense in rounds 1 to 3 to try and prove he is a smarter than everyone else. The best talent in this draft is on offense. Donald. And Jernigan look like the only fits for. kiffen. I really think that smaller and faster DT would actually match up with todays offenses. The true value in this draft is receivers,OL and corners. The Cowboys could use a smaller and fast slot receiver. Marquise Lee and Tevin Reese have major speed and are deep threats. Reese drops passes and has some ball security issues though.
