Mack isnt hamstrung. AD hugged him after a Texas Tecxh win last yr that was necessary to keep the the "fire Mack" momentum from building. President and AD hugged him after the KSU game. You can not have a more supportive group than Mack has at Texas. The coach will not have that kind of support from teh administration. I am not sure there is a coach in the country that has more support than Mack.

I know one.

And with support like that, he doesnt need enemies apparently.

If you watched the interview the other night you heard him say he had regrets about how that went down. He didnt orchestrate a charade, he made a simple mistake in his wording and it came back to haunt him. I love how people can be guilty of this same thing,m but view others in a different light simply because they dont like the person or want to have a reason to not like him. Anyone who has never told a lie, white or blatant, feel free to let me know.

I never said it wasn't a simple mistake. But all I said it has happened before, you cant say that it couldn't happen again, nobody can. I am just telling the facts, I am not saying he is a bad person bc of one lie.

I don't know why you are defending him like he is your father. If he goes, he goes; if he stays he will retire at Bama most likely.

But there is always a chance ge could leave, I just don't think he will.

Of course you know this from the coaching aspect...right?

I seem to remember someone saying that Alabama fans knew the mind of Saban, then we get this comment which shows that UT fans know the Pressures felt at both schools by the HC.
-
Austin has a lot more going on than Tuscaloosa. Just is what it is. Texas crowd is known to be a more wine and cheese crowd. There is pressure as there is at any traditional power, but it is not like it is at many SEC schools. I would compare it more to Michigan than Bama.

Saban has his through 3 titles. How many ADs hug a coach for beating a team that lost to FCS team 2 weeks prior and after 3 seasons of a losing conference record?

Not sure Saban will ever have to find that out, i dont think he has many losing seasons to his credit. And the support is unconditional at Alabama because he is a proven winner, like Mack.

I am defending him because he is my teams coach, should I just sit back and let the revelry happen at my teams expense this week of all weeks. This is only the biggest rivalry week we have had in the most recent years and for Texas to be rehashing emails that happened months ago now wreaks of desperation, disrespect and manipulation.

I hope for your sake that Urban doesnt leave for greener pastures if the going gets tough, but if it does, i would hope to see you try to defend the coach of your team just a bit, like I am doing. Shows a small measure of respect for the man and the job he has done.

It's pretty cool how every Bama fan on this board knows Saban personally to where they know exactly where his mindset is.
Really, that's what you get out of this thread?

Show one person who has said they are speaking from personal contact with Saban. This thread went exactly as one would expect:

- The Texas fans are talking like their HC job would be good enough to get the best coach to leave an unreal gig to come to their uncertain gig. No surprise there.

- The Bama fans are pointing out logically why he won't go. No surprise there.

Nothing more to see here than that.

You have to realize this is a forum. Anything out thar on a subject will be pulled up, fact or fiction. I never liked deadspin, but what's said is said.

If Urban leaves he leaves, it is part of coaching and college football. I am not worried about it now, just enjoying the journey and I'm sure it will be bumpy. But it isn't true, or you think it isn't, why is it bothering you that much? People will talk no matter what, let it happen. Then when it doesn't, you will know you were right. And that is the only thing that matters, WHO WAS RIGHT.

I'm bored right now and just wanted to get into rivalry week mode. I do like Saban as my teams coach. I have met the man and the impression i got is he is not the man portrayed in the media, although the situations surrounding my meeting him was a solemn affair surrounding the cleanup in T-town after the tornadoes, but he doesnt seem to be the man portrayed at all. Since LSU fans are being hesitant to speak much this week(Yellow Fever i fear), I thought i would occupy some time with this endeavor, thats why i am defending him so much. That and I dont want him to leave, wont be heart broken, but I like him being at Alabama.

This whole thing is just a ploy by Saban's agent to get a raise from Alabama. And he's doing a good job of it.

Likely this is the truth, but all Saban had to do was wait and see if he wins another title this year and ask then. He gets pretty much everything he wants at Alabama, just as his high payed assistants and staff.
Hell Kirby Smart makes more as the DC at Bama than he could likely get at a smaller school as HC, which is why he is still at Alabama.

Not sure where you got that from. I think most Texas fans believe this story is more of a agent's play to get money. Fact that the agent and Texas spoke gives some credibility that Saban to Texas is a possibility. My earlier post handicapped it at around 20%, which I typed was probably a bit high. I love that every post from a TExas fan is immediately taken as Texas fans being arrogant.

100% correct. Texas is a helluva job, no doubt about it, but big money isn't everything and neither is proximity to a virtually unlimited number of 4* and 5* high school players who grow up watching the Horns. Bottom line, UT is a bunch of blue bloods who will expect their coach to not only win games but also keep THEM happy too. That takes a very unique type of person (which Mack is to the nth degree) and Saban simply isn't the type of person who would smooch up to some demanding alum just because they forked over some serious coin to the university. Saban just isn't wired to fake it and that's needed sometimes at UT......even more so than what is normal for any other university. A lot of UT fans seem to not understand that Nick Saban is a lot more like Barry Switzer than Mack Brown. I would love to play against Saban every year but it won't happen. He'd be a fool to leave Bama. I'm predicting Texas blows the hire by going after Shaw who will. not. fit. at. the. University. of. Texas.

I am not sure you even read the thread, if you did I have doubts about your reading comprehension.
You already know I said it is unlikely, but here are some other quotes from Texas fans:

stampede: I think he sticks with Bama until retirement, but it vindicates a lot of Horns fans who got blasted for suggesting it.
Jefe: But I'm not on a cynical day. I just don't see him leaving.
TexasMan: This whole thing is just a ploy by Saban's agent to get a raise from Alabama. And he's doing a good job of it.

That certainly does not support your prior post.

That is part of every job in America. You can be a prick if you win though. You win 3 titles in 4 yrs and you can pretty much flip off anyone and they will say thank you very much.

Yah, if for some reason he left, it would be devastating all Bama fans and more to the university. Rumors will be rumors.

I think the first part of this correct, but you can say that about most top football programs in the country including OU. You let OU start losing some games they are suppose to win, and you will hear the same shouting towards Stoops.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but the fact that "Saban simply isn't the type of person who would smooch up to some demanding alum just because they forked over some serious coin to the university" would be a welcomed change in my book. The "good ole boys" club in Austin is why we are in the position in the first place. Mack would have been on the hot seat in 2010 if it weren't for these guys. Let's be real here. It's been downhill since 05. I know about 09, but lets face it. Under the current BCS system, if you go undefeated, you're probably going to play for the National championship, probably. Texas played NO ONE in 09. They couldn't have made undefeated with the second team. Colt going down hurt didn't really matter. I don't think they would have beaten Alabama anyway. I'll give Mack 09, but I'm not jumping up and down over it. I just want change. At this point I really don't care what type of coach they are. I know that's an emotional statement, but I getting to the point of hatered for Mack Brown. I know that's not fair, but I'm that frustrated.

Here's another nail in his coffin. In the USA Today, they have a mock NFL draft. I know this is BS but it is interesting. Texas ATM has 3 players projected in the first round. I believe all these are Sherman's players. Texas has none! That just shows that even Sherman was out recruiting Mack towards the end. Even if you go the direction of development, then I'll say ATM's players are being developed better than ours. This cannot happen! Every hs player in Texas will think to have a shot at the NFL, I better go to Texas ATM. Either way, it falls on Mack. Time to go.

Phantom, good points. The reason I don't want Mack to leave now is I'd like to see him become the winningest coach ever at UT. It takes a hell of a man to be the coach at UT and still be so respected by Oklahoma fans. And it's not because of the win/loss record; it's the attitude he has and the fact that Texas plays clean football even when the stakes are high. I admire what Mack has done at Texas. However, I also understand your feelings for him. I feel the same way about Bob Stoops; I'd rather get a tooth pulled than listen to any more of Stoops' lame excuses for underachieving. This year Texas caught up with him and put a ass-whipping on him. But every year OU runs into the same problem: we lose to a team we should have beaten. And it's usually an ugly loss where the O or the D didn't even get on the bus. I would caution my Horns friends to remember that if Mack feels like he's getting pushed out the door then it's going to be Katy bar the doors at UT.
