Contraction, expansion and leaving things alone all have their appeal. But what about expansion in particular? calsnowskier suggested Nashville and Mexico City in another thread and the more I think about it, the more both make total sense. I'm from Nashville and I'm telling that if they overwhelmingly, passionately support the Titans and Predators, they'd set attendance records for an MLB team. And I don't doubt that Mexico City would be right there with them. There are obvious advantages and disadvantages to expansion. Good idea in reality, or bad?

Both could probably support a team, but there may be other cities considerred first. I think Montreal would get first dibs...

I always wondered why New Orleans is never mentioned....

My thoughts on Mexico City, what player in their right mind would sign there? Who wants to raise a family there or move there? I think Puerto Rico would be a more realistic option if we're going that outside the box.

Realistically, it wouldn't happen, but New York is enough of a baseball town and there are enough people to support a 3rd team.

I think Nashville would be a very good destination.

I'm with the Magician, in that I don't think moving to Mexico, anywhere in Mexico, would be a good idea. The peole love the game, and would support it, but, it is not a safe or stable enough country for MLB to business in.

Mexico is too unstable for anything more than an occasional game. baseball works in montreal if they could ever get a decent stadium. Olympic park was crap from the day it opened. New orleans is a city that can really only support one major team. Just before katrina the saints were in talks to move to mississippi or san antonio. I wouldnt be surprised when the pelicans leave town eventually. Not sure how many big businesses reside in nashville but could they really be enough corporate dollars to support a third team.

I only wish I could remember the site I was on 2-3 days ago. They had pictures of a proposed park that would have been in Montreal had the Expos not left. It looked very nice, and would have had all the imenities of parks built 10 or so years ago. If I can find it, I will share. However, I don't know if having a primo park would have brought baseball fans in, as they just never got back on the Expo bandwagon after the 1994 strike.

I just found the pictures I was talking about. Sorry I am not more tech-savy, so you will have to check this out via the attached link.

Move the 2 teams out of Florida. Then expand by 2.

You would need 4 cities: Nashville, Charlotte, Omaha, Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, Montreal, and Norfolk should all be considered.

Norfolk? really?

Why not Rodanthe or Corolla? You could save a lot of gas.

I'd rather live in Mexico City than Boston and I'm far from alone.

A few years ago The Business Journals did a survey of which cities could financially support a major league baseball team. They determined that a city had to have an available Total Personal Income of 85.4 billion to support a team. Only one market -- Riverside-San Bernardino, Calif. -- has an income base that’s large enough to support a new MLB team with a TPI of $125.8 billion.

Montreal comes close with a TPI of $82.9 billion. Then Las Vegas at $69.3 billion. They are considered borderline.

Because it's a corrupt, filthy, rat-infested toilet that lacks basic infrastructure and is populated by some of the most lawless people in America maybe?

Or, just combine both teams, force Loria to sell and get out, and let the Rays Org. take over from there, with the newly combined team playing in the new Marlins yard?

The Florida Flying Fishsticks anyone?

Yes, Nashville has wanted the Rays franchise for years. They's shame the current "fans."
