I actually agree with this for the most part

But if I had a post player, mulkey is the coach to play for

Plenty of coaches can teach the game.

When it comes at the expense of character it isn’t worth it.

I lay more at the feet of the parents by that point in their lives

I didn’t read the article and I’m not going to.

But seems to me like Mulkey makes excuses for and accessorizes her players’ bad behavior.

I would never let my kids play for a coach like her.

It's a mixed bag with Mulkey. She's the Bob Knight of Women's basketball. She obviously is a very good teacher of the game, just as Knight was. But she also has a way of giving the sport (and herself) a black eye every now and then. Just like he did.

She's also good for the Women's game in that she and her teams provide a "villain" for the "good vs evil" narrative. Apparently, over 9 million people watched LSU vs Iowa last year...8 million of them probably hoping to see LSU lose. lol

I agree in that I wouldn't want my kids playing for her, but she draws a lot of attention to a sport that needs it, so she's a net positive for the sport, imo.

I'd also add that her behavior seems to getting out of control as she gets later into her career, which will ultimately start costing her recruits, wins and eventually jobs, just like it did with Knight.

When they're the best candidate?

How do we determine that ahead of time?

Would we have said Mulkey is the DEI hire for Baylor?

The only time I take issue with it swinging too far is situations like I keep alluding to with Detroit

It's clear Troy Weaver wanted a black head coach. Doesn't have to be so blatant

Only so much can be known ahead of time as we have seen good coaches fail.

But who has the best resume? Interviewed the best? Has the best system for the talent they have, or is willing to adjust it? In short, who appears to be the best "fit" for the program. So, it would be whoever checks off those boxes rather than DEI boxes.

I don't necessarily disagree

But I think we find many who jump to that conclusion immediately

But in terms of women's college hoops I could not care less what they do.

Same re: not caring.

While I don't care for anyone making DEI hires...ultimately, I only care what the teams I follow do.

So, while I don't care if the Celtics or UCLA make DEI hires (and might even encourage them to lol), I wouldn't want the Lakers or USC to do it.

End of day if a DEI hire hurts the team or whatever organization we are talking about that company pays the price in the end

Here is the thing though, using the women’s basketball example.

If there is 1 candidate who stands out above the rest than that is the person that should be hired.

However, if it is close between a woman and a man, than the woman should get the nod IMO.

Because the role model opportunity for a woman to lead a team of women is a pretty big deal and not to be taken lightly.

He died so I could annoy you guys with obscure salary cap rules and random players who get picked in the second round…
He died so he could rise to take care of those that blaspheme! lol

Imo

This is just sexist bullshit trying hide under fake virtue

It is saying that women can’t learn from male role models

Do you think a woman coaching a men's professional team would be successful

Just a matter of time until it happens. No reason to say it couldn’t be successful.

Yup.

We’ve already seen forced dei hires in most of the major sports

I think it’s more likely to work in the nba than college due to recruiting and the portal being a much bigger wild card
