Hey Broncos, hire me to be your GM.
Hindsight is always 20/20 but hey, send over your resume. Couldn't hurt.

Me and my big mouth. Making assumptions about not falling off a cliff or a team/player rift. Oh well. I hope Broncos fans enjoyed the 2 years for $124M.There are potential trade options open to teams that want to move players with guaranteed contracts. If the team and trade market deem the player isn't worth the money in their contract the team can eat the guarantee and cut the player or agree terms with a trading team where the new team absorbs as much as they are willing to pay and the trading team eats eats the rest. Mayfield's contract with the Browns was an example of this.
That situation shouldn't happen with Wilson and the Broncos. This is the situation as per Spotrac:
Wilson is fully guaranteed the $124M due to be earned during the 1st 3 years of his Broncos contract. The Broncos can get out of the contract at that cost at any time up to the 5th league day of 2024, (IE before the 3rd playing season starts). At that point the Broncos will fully guarantee the $37M in Wilson's 4th year. Effectively it's $124M for 2 years with an option for 2 more years at a combined $37M. Those are the cut/keep points for non-trade options. Assuming his play doesn't fall off a cliff and there isn't a team/player rift it's 4 years at $161M. Obviously the Broncos wouldn't be paying him $124M if they traded him between years 2 & 3.
I don't think a trade happens if there wasn't assurances for a new contract. The Broncos swung and missed. Not more complicated than that.Hey Broncos, hire me to be your GM.
I suppose that's possible, but then wouldn't you announce the extension contemporaneous with the trade? The extension happened some time laterI don't think a trade happens if there wasn't assurances for a new contract. The Broncos swung and missed. Not more complicated than that.
It would technically be the most rational, but people seldom operate this way in the real world for idiosyncratic reasons. If you want a Occam's razor here, it's that the Broncos do not want to be known as a cheap organization that leans one way and fails to do another. That has its own consequences. Working out the language of a contract takes time.I suppose that's possible, but then wouldn't you announce the extension contemporaneous with the trade? The extension happened some time later
He has already shown signs that he's on the decline. His size and his game doesn't age well in the NFL.
Depends on when they schedule the game, week 1 it’ll be Russ, later on it could be Fields for all we know. We don’t know how much of a leash they’re going to give Russ. The Steelers play the Broncos next season....
Must see TV.
Just really for this year. With Denver taking the majority of the hit this year and next year the cap going up again it‘s not really a crippling situation. Its gonna hurt for a while
