Maybe history and analytics don't support my statement, but it seems like there's always solid edge rushers available every year. Sweat hasn't shown me anything where he MUST be re-signed. Good player sure, gamechanger, no....unless its against 3rd string cowboy QBs
Game changer is a crazy high standard to have when it comes to re-signing a player.

What a mess.
There is no reason Thomas should be on the opening day roster. What is to be gained by it? He has proven that he has limited availability.

Oh well, I am honestly not expecting much this year to be honest. Until Rivera is gone, it will be status quo. I am sure Dean will disagree with me. I am sure his "predictions" will be something else. I see him saying we will win 13 games with Howell being the MVP. I can't wait!

lol. O/U is 7.5 again. I will wait for the win total prediction.

I think Payne was a gamechanger last season, and re-signing him became import. He's probably gone with a 4 sack season

Aye Breed, do you really wanna see 20+ cap hit for a guy that with the right scouting and drafting can be replaced???

As it should be. We are not good and it's obvious.

Who is your carson wentz this year?

I will start my prediction at 7 or 8 games. Unless additional changes are made or a major trade is pulled off, I will more than likely stick with 7.5 as well. They were spot on last year.

Hasn't that already happened with Payne? And there's no way Payne should be making almost double the guaranteed money that Allen is, who is the Skins best DL player.

Theoretically any player can be replaced with the right scouting n drafting. As it stands now. Young should be far easier to replace than Sweat looking at it from a production standpoint.

As it stands now. With decent seasons from Sweat n Young. The Skins will be looking at paying 80+ million in just the DL alone. I don't see that as sustainable.

My estimates for a couple of years ago have been very good. I think I said 20 mil for Allen, 22 for Pay e, 25 for Sweat, and 30 for Young (before all the injuries.

So is this a preference thing? You wanted to keep Sweat over Payne? It seems that way. Again, I'm hoping we can trade off Young and Sweat, and draft new DEs. Where exactly do you want the money to go to?

Yeah I've been using the 80 mill number for a couple years. I thought Allen could've gotten 20 mill per personally. As it stands right now your total may end up closer on point.

If you want to call it a preference thing that's cool. I'd opine its about trying to be strong n formidable at every level.

Jonathan Allen is the only player on the front four I'd keep w/o reservation. I'd of tried trading Payne for a draft pick. Can't say I'm a fan of players who "break out" all over sudden in their contract year. Whoever impresses the most between Sweat n Young that's who I pay. And as it stands now Sweat is the easy choice. Young needs a significant season coming up.

I would've used the money saved by trading Payne on getting a LB and/or an OL or CB.

we'll have to wait and see, i think Payne will have nearly identical production from last year, with the exception of his sack total increasing.
Best wishes for Sweat though, and yes you're right...sack totals shouldn't be the only measuring stick for him as an edge setter/rusher

He wasn't even a guy last year n he was terrible his sophomore year. As it stands right now. His rookie season is more the outlier than his 2nd or 3rd year.
He would fetch a 1st rounder.

It depends on the QB play whether this team take the next step or not. Defense should be strong.

Roullier has endured some rough luck in recent seasons. His production remains decent when on the field, but dependability is a real concern and something the Commanders can no longer rely upon with so much at stake in 2023.

If the Commanders find an interior offensive lineman or two via the draft, then Roullier becomes a prime cut candidate considering the savings involved with a post-June 1 designation. This amounts to $8.37 million, which is around what’s required for Washington to sign their incoming class.
With just 10 appearances over the last two seasons, cutting Roullier seems like the most likely scenario
one reason Dean that drafting a center is a need

Thomas has regressed considerably following his impressive 2020 campaign where he gained 670 receiving yards and six touchdowns. The former Virginia Tech quarterback could return to this form with Bieniemy calling plays, but there’s no telling for sure and if one of the top-end prospects becomes available, the Commanders should pull the trigger.

This would make things difficult to justify keeping Thomas around given the team’s current financial state. Releasing him with a post-June 1 designation comes with $6.92 million in cap savings, which could prove too tempting to ignore if a gifted college recruit is attained.

I agree Thomas should be gone. OF course, if Roullier gets cut then i could see drafting a center.. I dont we take JMS at 16 and I don't think JMS would be there in the 2nd round when we pick. IF we cant trade down, when do we take a center? Sure Aviala can play center he should be there in the 2nd round but I think he would be best at OG. My mini mock still stands at Porter round 1 and Avila Round 2.
