Njigba going down was a big issue early as they missed on a play he would've turned into a td heading into halftime but I still say no excuses. Osu is absolutely loaded at WR. Stroud started rolling the pocket in the 2nd and looking comfortable and that opened everything up.

I've never seen a player as fast (not that he's anywhere near Fields or Pryor or something) who absolutely refuses to scramble so seeing him do that was nice. Even Haskins had designed runs that would be effective.

Notre Dame has a very stout D though and if they get qb figured out they will be tough.
Freeman inherited a team that for whatever reason can’t finish vs elite teams. His first two games he was thrown to the wolves. It takes time to get that figured out and the ship righted. My biggest criticism of Freeman last night was the poor clock management at the end of the 1H. No need for that time out. Most of what can occur at that point that is impactful is bad.

Not sure because ND is right there in recruiting.. not top 5 but not far behind

I think their best chance to win was a week 1 type of sloppy affair. If they play this game in 2-3 weeks I think the outcome is likely a bigger OSU margin because the OSU offense really didn’t execute last night. Neither did ND’s but that’s a product of a QB making his first start.

The Shoe is a tough place for a QB to make his first career start.

For obvious reasons I didn't want N.D. to win last night. But I like Marcus Freeman and will be rooting his team going forward.

D hasn't been bad. 2 plays account for more than half of ND offense.

Need something here.

The D looked good last night. Haven't said something like that in a couple of years. Held N.D. 253 total yards. 54 of them came from that first drive pass play. And the Irish were only 3-13 on 3rd down.

The D was better than I was expecting but the Offense was not till the last TD.

that's just speculation, but if they can't beat them late in the season, then what's the difference. now they have to overcome an early blemish on their record.

still think pyne is the better qb too.

Gonna give the offensive a very slight pass. Losing Smith-Njigba didn't help things.

Only one game and the D looks like a completely different unit.

Not worried about the offensive. They'll start clicking sooner and not later.

CJ is Def a pro qb with a pro arm. If I have one gripe it's the lack of mobility.
Not even sure it's a lack of mobility just the refusal to run when it's there. He seems like he can move to keep plays alive and throw.

And if they do (I think they will, too) and the D is really legit look out.

I think he knew it, too (that he messed up end of half)....at least that didn't cost him I guess.

It’s easier to overcome a competitive loss on the road vs #2 in week 1 than at another point in the season. If ND beats Clemson and USC they’re a playoff team. If Pyne is the better QB ND is in trouble because he’s limited ability wise.

I really like how the D looked last night. It's a good step in the right direction. But one game doesn't change two seasons of disappointment. What a difference in only one game Jim Knowles has made already.

Of course need to see it again, but it's sure better than getting gashed like we did in our first real test last year.

Stroud didn't play as well as I thought a leading Heisman candidate would.....

they'd have to play near perfect for the rest of the season now to make the playoffs, and beating clemson and usc is no guarantee. what have they done lately?

they said ian book had limited ability too. pyne is just quicker at making decisions, and the right decision.
