Giving up a touchdown to start a half or quarter isn’t an automatic loss in football.

Shouldn’t be the case in OT either.

It is in OT. Don't like it? You had 60 minutes to avoid it. I don't get the obsession with making sure every miniscule thing is "fair."

If regulation ends in a tie....make it an extra quarter of football.

Nothing wrong with more football.

Fair isn’t the thing.

Playing football differently than the winner being the team ahead when the clock hits zero is the thing.

Hockey does it and it's great. I don't think football needs to change a thing. Your scenario is still a reality as long as it's done in regulation. If you can't win in regulation, sorry, should have been better for an hour.

I think football needs to change its overtime rules. Because they stink.

I was fine with Sudden Death.
You had 4 quarters to avoid the dreaded Coin Flip & the coin flip is fair for both sides.
Now I get it. Getting into FG range was too easy, so they made the rules the way they are now. Which is perfect. Yes. I said perfect!
If your defense is so shitty. You cant stop one driver for a TD. Then Improve your defense. overtime as it is. Is as fair as it should be.
BTW there isnt a lot of 1st drive TDs going on either

Now if you want to make some tweaks for overtime officiating. I would be fine for that. Review bogus PI calls ensech. Have New York (or whoever) call down to the field & make refs on field overturn a bad call because they have their heads up their asses. But short of fixing refs. Overtime is fine the way it is.

If your team is really worried about automatic loss if you lose the coin flip. Dont play for the tie. Play for the win.

I at least got the argument because the ease of FGs.
I used to think the coin flip winner was gonna win it. (even though that didnt always happen)
Now I dont assume the coin flip winner is gonna win.

I got the argument about the ease of the FG, but I still thought it was great.

3. Score a TD. If team A scores a TD they must try for 2, if they get the 2 game is over, if they miss team B gets the ball and can win with a TD and PAT.
Seems like Team A is getting penalized for scoring a TD making them go for 2. While Team B is getting rewarded only having to go for 1.

The "so-and-so didn't get a chance to win" is the biggest full of shit argument in history.

What do you call those four quarters you played before the overtime happened?

Fun fact: If Brett Favre doesn't throw an asininely stupid interception at the end of regulation in the NFCCG against the Saints, we would still be playing under the old Sudden Death rules. The current overtime rules we have are a result of the NFL apologizing to Brett Favre for him choking away another Super Bowl opportunity.

But it forces team B to score a TD if team A goes FG, and it limits the chances of being tied at the end.

There's just one tie possibility. If no team scores on their one opportunity.

I may be penalizing team A making them go for two, but it also ends the game if they make it.

Have no idea why they need to change it.

If you cant stop a team from going down and scoring a TD on you in the first possession of OT, you dont deserve to win.
Sure but if it is a shootout and players are worn out after putting up 80 points total...the game shouldn't come down to a coin toss. That doesn't seem right especially if the team that just scored to force OT gets the ball right back.

how about as simple as this... take away the coin flip... and the HOME team always gets the ball first...

what this will make the end of the regular game more fun to... because the away team will often try NOT to get in to OT...
Giving it to the home team seems like an unfair advantage but I think any case seems "unfair". Just give it to the team that had the ball the final possession when the time expired. Only makes sense since you are basically continuing the game.

Example: KC scores a TD with 10 seconds left. LAC kneels the clock out. LAC should get the ball bc they would have the ball on the next possession. It makes no sense KC gets ball back. It's just an extension of the game.

But if LAC is the home team, they would definitely kneel, if they were the away team, they may try one more trick play to end the 4th quarter... or do a long pass and pray for a pass interference...

and if KC was the away team, they would probably go for 2 in this situation....

How about no OT coin flip, the last team to score DOESN'T get the ball first.
