Your opinion is irrelevant to the committee. Conference championships matter according to the committee.

Isn't this whole thread created as a prediction/opinion thread? I guess I'll probably be wrong. I'm good with that. Wouldn't be the first time!

12-1 > 11-1

Sorry that you wasted your time.

You do know the committee looks at common opponents, right?

Losing to Auburn, and then Auburn being the 4th or 5th best team in the SEC will be Oregon's downfall. I think they are the least likely of the one loss teams to make the playoffs now.

I do give them A LOT of credit for scheduling a tough OOC opponent. Most teams don't do that.

Also, I think it's been a GREAT waste of time!

You do know the committee has never left out a 1-loss conference champ in favor of a 1-loss nonchamp, right?

Not winning the conference will be Alabama's downfall. They are one of the least likely teams in the top 10 to make the playoffs now.

Good call, although when has it happened where both teams had a common opponent and the conference champ lost to that common opponent? Also, did that one loss, non conference champion have it's only loss against the #1 team in the country?

I just don't see how the committee, who says their job is to choose the very best four teams, would take one team over another when they both had one loss, and played a common opponent with opposite results.

I'm predicting they lose more than just one game, and that it won't be a close loss. I think I stated that in my paragraph at the end.

They lose a game to either Iowa or Wisconsin, and get blown out by Ohio State. Heck, they could lose both those games and let Wisconsin back in the B10 championship game.

I'm not criticizing them, as they have had a GREAT year! That win over Penn State has me thinking they could run the table, but I'm thinking they have two losses on their schedule.

Interesting scenario... MN runs the table and loses a very close game to tOSU... better resume than 'bama, no?

Maybe...I just have a tough time being too hard on a team who lost to the number #1 team in the country. Minnesota would have an argument as Ohio State would likely be the #2 team in the country, but the committee has stated that their objective is to determine who they think are the best four teams in the country. I can't imagine any of them would choose Minnesota over Bama if they have the same record and both are not conference champions.

Then you need to see an optometrist.

If you have a P5 team that not only played for their conference title, but has more ranked wins than another program that didn't even play for their conference title, and you still bump the first team for the second team, why even have a committee? They can't say anymore that playing for the conference title or having more ranked wins matters, so basically you're telling teams like Minnesota to not even bother.

Why would Bama have a 65% chance of getting in if LSU wins out, but Minnesota only 1% if they go, say, 12-1 with only loss to 13-0 OSU?

Again, I'm not in the committee so perhaps they would choose differently, but there isn't a sane person on this message board that would bet on Minnesota winning against Bama if the two teams played. I've always been under the impression that the committee's sole job is to determine who they think are the best four teams. Obviously the team's record and accomplishments has a say in it, but I just don't see how they could say that, and then choose Minnesota over Bama when both teams would have the same record and no conference championship. Especially when both losses would have been against the two top ranked teams in the country.

Regardless, Minnesota is going to lose more than one game, and if they make it to the B10 Championship, they will likely lose by 3+ TD's (although it would be interesting if it was a rematch with Penn State). I hope I'm wrong, but I'm right.

Then like I said, you're telling teams like Minnesota to not even bother. The committee has to base things on this actual year. Given what I've seen from Bama's defense, I think Minnesota could absolutely put up points. In the end, would it be enough? Probably not. However, before last weekend I don't know if anyone would've kept Penn State out over Bama if they had more ranked wins and played for the conference title, and we saw what happened to them vs. Minnesota.
